Don't you love the palouse! I was there a few years ago and could have stayed a month, just shooting the rolling plains under various light conditions! You captured the essence of the area well. I wish the image had been sharp all the way through. I can see at least three, maybe four different images in this one. I have read that the really good compositions allow that. Well-spoted. |

Thanks Steve. I have found that just taking a long exposure with a tripod works well. Sometimes the light is a little bright, but that can be controlled, and sometimes must be changed in pp. Each situation I have shot the burning steel wool has had different amounts of ambient light. These can be shot in the front yard too! |

Thanks Tom. I've never entered a PSA competition, and am not sure I'd be comfortable doing so. Thank you for the compliment tho! |

Thanks Kathy. I have been a part of three or four times shooting a burning steel wool, so I can tell you that it is easy to do. |

What a perfect dahlia! Lovely subtle colors and softness. I like your framing and crop too. Looks rather perfect in exposure, detail, and coloring. Well-done on the spur of the moment! |

In your explanation, you just reinforced what we each know, that photography is subjective and that is as it should be. You might consider darkening the white spots in the background as they pull at the eye a bit. It's always comforting when a picture causes us to remember special moments. |

Good job with the technique of having a single color. It might work well in sepia also? I can see this hanging on a wall in a cabin in Alaska! |

What a wonderful portrait of a beautiful young girl. The black background works well, and the colors, model expression and feeling of the image is just delightful. Good job with changing the background! |

I enjoy pictures such as this showing the harshness of winter weather near the great lakes. The icicle details are stunning, and the depth of the picture is wonderful. This looks like an HDR image. You might consider cropping to be in a portrait orientation, removing much of the sky and surrounding ice formations, thereby causing the eye to focus more on the icicles. Does it also look as if you may have had rather harsh lighting and some white blow-outs? Good details in the shadows. What a wonderful opportunity for showing results of extreme weather! |
