Wow, what a beautiful image, and to be hand-held, at f4.5, your dof is astonishing. Well-done. I hope you don't mind my posting, as I was having a conversation with another member of your group, and this image caught my eye for sure! |

Sorry Tracy, but I live in Tennessee. Sure wish we lived closer so we could go shooting together. I have the same problem, and many people find good excuses not to go out at night shooting.......usually because they have regular jobs! good luck with your night photography! |

Hey Tracy, I am the person with a milky way shot in group 28 this month. I like your composition, and I didn't even notice the three foreground lights until you mentioned them. My biggest problem with the milky way is setting the white balance, and most of the time I get it wrong, and end up making changes in post. I also like having the stars show up rather bright, and find myself using the levels sliders in post. I have been to the butte, but not to take star pictures. I have wondered how it would be. Looks like there are lots of lights within the horizon, and you have done well to capture both. |

Well, Steve, I am not a fan of lens flare, unless it is pointing to something important within the image. To me, it is usually a distraction. However, I do like the sunset, the mood of the image, and the water. Catching the warmth of the setting sun is so special. |

Hello Stephen. Thanks for looking and the questions. Yes, post processing on the milky way is tricky, and sometimes I am happy with the results and sometimes not. I added a bit of blue and magenta, by selecting just the sky, and did a bit of levels adjustments in an attempt to sharpen the stars, and lighten the important parts. My shooting location is my yard/orchard, and I call my residence The Little House. (It is in the country in Tennessee).
Thanks for the heads-up for group 19. |

Wonderful shot of a beautiful bird! I might have the tendency to want to decrease the brightness of the background, but either way, wonderful oof background and just perfect coloring on the bird! Nice sharpness too. |

This is a fascinating image to me for several reasons. The main one being, how would be it gives me a chance to study the best way to shoot something like this subject. I see two things that grab my attention, one is the spider-like edges of these stone formations, seen mostly in the left side of the image, and then there is the details of the stones in the right side of the image. Right now I am thinking it would make interesting images to take shots of both, using different angles/light in order to see both of these details in this most interesting cave system. Thinking ahead, I might be able to apply similar shooting techniques to similar subjects. Thank you for submitting this shot for our consideration! |

Thanks for the compliment Richard. We each have our own way of seeing things, unique and special. I need to be able also to take a look at items that are pulling at the eye that can be eliminated! |

Nice leading line into the trees and scene. I like your softness of everything, but I might suggest toning down the color in the walkway, back more toward gray, and perhaps just a tad of less saturation in the greens, although the effect of the foliage is nice and dreamy. A different take on an interesting site. Thanks for presenting us with something 'different'! |

I like the composition, simple lines, and movement of the water.......my kind of picture! The lack of sharpness bothers me a bit, but the clouds in front of the mountains are awesome. The color is a bit mono-toned, but that too, looks natural. I easily get the feeling of being on a boat looking backward, and what a peaceful sight! |

This is a place I have wanted to visit since the first picture I saw of it, and I haven't gone yet! There is nothing not to like about this image, although I do think Gary's suggestion could be tried. The lightest part of the image catches the eye right away. The final image is by far the best. I'm curious as to what time of day you were there? It sounds like a nightmare of a process in order to get to shoot this shot! |

Don, I took a closer look at the upper right third of your image, and found some chromatic aberrations as well as some color noise, (although I'm not sure that is what you call it.) You are correct, it's difficult to see in this small of an image, so for our purposes, what noise is there may not be important. But, here is what I tried: in camera raw, used noise reduction of Luminance 15, and color 18. Used recovery 100%, -o.25 exposure, and checked the box for removal of chromatic aberrations. I'm not sure you can tell any difference, but that seemed to reduce the color distortions that I saw in the original. Also, the slight over-exposure that I corrected may be just on my screen. We'll see how it looks here. Thanks for the challenge, and I hope this helps. There are others in this group who may give better suggestions, and who are more experienced in post processing. Like old barns, old covered bridges are disappearing. It looks like an interesting place. |

Almost without thinking about it, any time I find a bench in a natural setting, automatically I think about taking a shot showing the bench and some part of the surroundings. I find myself moving from place to place, trying to find the best angle to present from. Sometimes I'm happy with my final and sometimes not. This is a good shot, showing the time of day and the time of year. The shadow on the arm was not noticeable to me, and removing it could make that part of the image seem more important. Nice dof. |

This shot shouts 'wide angle' and 'hdr'! I like it, and especially enjoy the colors. I don't especially like the sky, but it's better than the other ones, and it seems to fit the building. Lots of details that take the eye around the image is especially nice, and removal of the shadows on the porch is nice.
