65 May 24 Reply The dogwood flower is a bit interesting. The true flowers are the greenish yellow center not the pink parts called bracts. The bracts are modified leaves which start very small and grow, just like a leaf, to the size you see. There are 4 bracts in the inflorescence, with a flower they usually have 5 petals or more, usually in odd numbers not even. In our area white Flowering Dogwoods are native which flower in the spring. 65 May 24 Reply Florists can tint, usually carnations, most any color the customer might want. Usually just the tip of the flower is tinted. May 12th
65 May 24 Comment The backlighting on the leaves makes this image successful. Nice detail in the leaves. The background is great but very noisy probably due to the cropping and not taking a close-up. Would like to see the information about the lens, speed, ISO and etc. I like a flip which I feel improves the composition. Nice image. May 12th
65 May 24 Comment Great shot! Love everything about this. Great composition. Very sharp with great detail in the petals. Nice soft lighting and a great background. No distractions. Very nice with great impact which is important in an image. May 12th
65 May 24 Reply This is the idea I had. I also tried to fix the color cast but am not happy with the results, but I tried. May 12th
65 May 24 Comment First thing when I look at this image is the reddish-brown color to the image. Not sure what would cause this, but this is a distraction. Don't think you need both sets of leaves and buds, they compete with each other. To my eye the focal point is the color of the red buds coming out in bloom. for this reason, I would move in closer and not include the entire leaves, it would not hurt to crop them. When you are shooting a subject shoot more shots and keep moving in with each shot. If you shoot one shot, it's your best shot. If you shoot five shots only one will be the best. I am also a big believer in using a polarizer on my lens to eliminate glare on leaf surfaces which can fool the light meter in the camera. There's a lot of glare on the back leaf in this shot. You gave a great subject here to work with.

65 May 24 Reply The background is one of several I have made. When I mat pictures, I save the center if its large enough to make a background. I purchase cans of florist paint use to tint flowers at a craft store. It dries fast and is flat with no sheen. I use several green colors and in this background some pink. But you can make any combination of colors to make natural looking backgrounds. I usually place them some distance from the subject, so they are out of focus. May 12th
65 May 24 Comment Really like the colors in this image, gives the image a nice impact. Like the focus on the water drop that's very sharp. Great background. Nice soft lighting.
Interesting hitchhikers on the tip of the bud, three or four aphids which does not distract. Not sure what has caused the dark line all the way across the image just above the tip of the bud. I would probably remove the out of focus bud on the lower left. The two bright spots and the highlight around the bud is a bit distracting. Nice image.
