I agree with cropping some off the right side even as much as to crop into the petals as you did on the three other sides. This would the focal point the water drops. I would like to know if this handheld or did you use a tripod? The water drops are not as sharp as they could be. I would like to see your original shot. I was not able to really look at Frans changes very well, the image did not seem to be sized correctly. Nice composition and color with a great background. Love these close-ups. |

Nice composition with this flower. The name of this flower is cosmos. I feel you did good with the Lensbaby on this. As much as I believe in using a tripod on all my shots, I found it better to hand hold my shots with my Lensbaby. I tried both ways. My technique was to slowly move in and out till the point of focus was where I wanted then shoot. I shot several shots then picked the shot where I wanted the sharpness to be. I would probably prefer a little darker background. Would like to see the original shot. Nice shot.

Really like the composition and the background really makes the lily pop. I'm not a fan of shooting close-ups of flowers in full sun. This to my eye will cause too much contrast with parts of the petals very bright, and other parts in the shadows. These bright areas over power the other flower parts. The eye always goes to the lightest or brightest areas in an image. In this image the leaf is a distraction being the brightest point in the image. I love the detail in the stamens.
Please include the info. about camera settings lens f-stop, ISO, tripod, polarizer etc. This is important info. and may be helpful in our critiques and learning. |

You will love the 105, it's one of the best made. Very good glass. I have a 105 it's an older lens than the one you have I think the new one is a faster lens than the older one. You have a great lens for sure. |

So happy for you to purchase a macro lens. What macro lens did you purchase? All a macro lens does is allow you to focus at a closer distance to the subject. You will get use to the lens and love it. With this in mind why did you take the original shot as you did then crop to get the shot you used? With a macro lens you can get right in and compose the shot with very little cropping afterwards. This is also where a tripod does wonders when you compose your shot. This also does not waste pixels that you will throw away. These pixels will then be used in your image. The background is a bit bright for my eye and is a bit distracting. The leaf is also a distraction to my eye. I would love to see you shoot this again, get in close to eliminate cropping or keep it to a minimum and do some house cleaning before you shoot. |

Maria, what a beautiful image. Great background. Love the colors. I would crop the image on all side making the image larger and doing away with dead space. I like it flipped and I brightened the image and gave it more contrast. A great shot. |
