Had not considered a significant crop. I wanted to show context. But I see your point - thanks. |

Nice photo, Leonid. I agree with Judy's comment re facial shadow. I liked your background on the right hand side showing the war-damaged building. The left hand side show cracks in vegetation which seems out of context with the overall theme. |

Great shot, Jody! I agree with Robert that the low f-stop enabled you to separate the bee from the background foliage nicely. Too nicely? Perhaps, but getting that point just right is very difficult in a macro shot, as you know. You might try using a higher f-stop combined with a higher ISO. I find the newer cameras are much more forgiving of higher ISO settings. |

Quite a beautiful photo! The flower colors are soothing and the background color really amplifies the overall impact. Removing some of the halos in the middle part of the photo would add to it as would filling in some of the missed places between the stems where the mask did not cover. |

Tom, you are becoming our group's wild life photographer. This excellent image is another example. I agree with the others that the background vegetation is somewhat distracting, largely because there is so much of it. I like for wildlife photos to show the environment in which they were taken, so the green is not as big a problem as the others find. I did found the white reflection (?) behind the head and neck a problem in that I found clearly identifying the head and neck difficult. Should be an easy fix. Cloning in some of the green background is one option. Nice job, Tom. |

It's the shadow from the bird's body. You can see it also in the shadow from the head feathers, Robert. |

I like Judy's version too. I wonder if in going from your original, some baby got thrown out with the bath water, so that the sharpness of the anteni and head were lost.
I like making the flowers part of the subject as Judy has done. To me, the bright colors of the subject stand well out from the Swallowtail and flowers and were not affected by the background. |
