Thank you all for your comments and especially Robert and Judy for their informative guidance. I did not crop sky in order to attempt to capture the isolation and remoteness that i felt about the "sentry." I do see advantage in the larger bird rendition. The brush on the LH side has to go, for sure. |

Excellent image. I can understand your competitive success with it. |

I especially like the originality of the image and the overall quality. This scene must be photographed hundreds of times daily, but I bet none looks like your version of it! |

I too find the increased contrast beneficial. |

This is a striking image Robert -the colors are really something. The image looks quite sharp to me, too. I pondered the leaf as did the others. I initially thought it added some needed depth, but now think there is plenty of depth provided by the partially shaded petals on the LH side. The shadow of the flower on the leaf detracts it just doesn't seem to belong.

Very nice, Jessica! Keep shooting those beautiful flowers. The layers are effective. The four front flowers seem quite nicely in focus while the ones farther back less so. Think you were successful in creating depth, at least to my eye. Some of the flower tips seem a bit blown out. Probably would be solved by cutting back the highlights a bit. |

Ah, the PS wizard weighs in! I like it, Judy. Did you select the bird and open on a separate layer, resize, then replace into the base layer? Or how did you do it? |
