The texture you captured here is quite pleasing. Everyone seems to be in agreement that the original version lacked focus on a subject of the composition, the latch. That being accomplished, is there more? I don't see it. |

I like your cropping here! Nothing in the photo aft of this mug adds information the viewer needs to evaluate the total. Post processing, I might replace the sky to provide some contrast and add some texture to he foreground. Your cropping adds great drama to a bla picture of a bull. What did you think, Leonid? |

As always, Dorinda, your comments are thoughtful and considered. I did not feel the duck was lost here. I was bowing a bit to the 1/3 rule here in my cropping without any firm conviction for why I should do so. I can see that your suggested cropping would be effective also. As to the left-to-right read, I had never heard of it. Is that position thought to be more pleasing? |

Thank you, Leonid. I always find your comments interesting. I did sharpen slightly and felt the image was sharp enough. More seemed to me to trespass the "realistic" line. Perhaps we are looking of different versions of this one. |

I did too, Robert. I liked the image sans the filter. I am pleased that the effect resonated with another. |

A most effective beginning to a potentially outstanding image, Dorinda! What to do with the lower dark half of it? There is detail here, we can see it and I agree with Robert that we need to bring it out. However, to see sharp detail here, in my opinion, gives lie to the overall foggy atmosphere elsewhere. Detail shrouded in fog and mist seems to be what my eye is looking for. |

Good eye, Robert, to see this image study in the sort of snow patterns we all see every day. Good job also in controlling the glare from the reflected sunlight. I would guess that the focal length was closer to 55 than 17 and the aperature well above f2.8 as everything is nicely in focus. My only thought was to darken the out of focus section on the upper LH side to match and balance the upper RH side. Excellent photograph, Robert. |

You really nailed this one, Jessica! I love the colors and the composition. The blurred focus doesn't bother me because it so effectively blends the yellow and the orange. Quite a striking image. I would subdue the white reflection in the upper left hand corner either by burning or cloning.
