Thanks, Dorinda. I like your.suggestion to bring the trees more into the forefront. |

Jessica's comments are closest to my own impressions of this scene. I wanted to highlight the contrast of the bright colorful geyser deposits with the death of the trees that the same water provided. I hoped to convey this impression by having the trees play a prominent role in the image. The comments from you tell me that this was not what most of you saw -- that the trees were more an irritant than an important part of the picture. Perhaps, the lesson here is that the trees fail to convey the message because the colorful formation is too prominent in the photograph and the trees are serving as a distraction from the main show? |

I like the depth of the picture with the railroad tie in the foreground and the distant house brightly highlighted. I feel that cropping the right hand side of the image improved it, getting rid of the taller tree and the bright line in the lower RH corner of the frame. Robert's suggested sky enhancements are also an improvement. |

I agree with Judy's remarks and the others' as well. Applying a layer mask would enable you to increase the contrast of the sky and improve that a bit. But, even without that, it is a very nice capture, for sure. |

Nice colors in the photograph. It is hard to convey gloom with those colors so nicely displayed. Indeed, they neutralize the coldness of the wall and perhaps the roadway. The message of the picture doesn't come through to me. |

I love the interplay of light and shadows in this image. It is really quite striking. Parts of the image are soft and a bit out of focus, but softness goes well with this composition. At this range, it is difficult to keep everything sharp, I know. I have been working on focus stacking to deal with the same problem. What were the camera settings you used? |

I love this. You have successfully balanced, in my opinion, the softness of the skin of this child with the sharpness of the hair and the eyes. A captivating subject for sure. Kudos for your success in keeping everything in balance. |

Thanks for your thoughts, Judy. As for option one, it was impossible to move backwards because the shot was taken from a narrow walkway. A step backward put me into a geyser pool. As for option two, I had I had not even thought of it. I had hoped that the bright colors in the back ground would be sufficient to draw the eye. But I'm going to give it a try. I think it might work. We |
