Thank you Lance for your input. There are often times when it seems to me the bud has more to offer than its open bloom. When I looked at the stem and it's "messy" texture, it just didn't seem to be consistent with the sultry (and yes..sexy) shape. I dismissed the base before looking at the entire image, and therefore missing the natural balance it added.
Looking at it now after everyone's input, the straight rendition leaves the poor girl a little static. Your illustration and comments are very helpful and I appreciate your feedback.
As a side note, I do remember Exhibition prints, but of course I was just a child…. |

The starkness of the white background gives your image a sense of drama. That and the complaining raven. The detail in the feathers are really nicely done and the way the raven has pushed up his wings gives a more dynamic feel. I agree with Diana that working this image is worth the time. |

You did a great job in converting this image to monochrome, and I think the clouds are fine. Anything harsher might shift attention away from the mission. Straightening the mission was also very well done - as Wes said, attempts often appear odd. I think it's great. |

Like Tom I don't really mind the shadows, although the hot spot in the larger back left onion might be something I would tone down a little. The composition is nicely done with the front right onion having a bit of peeling adds to the image. A few months ago I submitted an image where the group suggested I remove the distinctive line behind the subject. I thought of that when I saw your background and wondered if it would force more emphasis on the onions. Just a thought. |

I've not much to add as everyone has stated the comments I would have made. Terrific perspective shot. |

This image made me smile as it really is western gambling at its core. Being a less than adequate card player (roulette & craps more my games) the hand displayed would be an unlikely event. As already commented, the mirrored glasses add a lot of interest as do the chips. Tom did a good job increasing the contrast and only adds to an already good capture. I understand Diana's invisible man thought, but the cards, chips and money neutralize that thought. The monochrome choice is absolutely the best choice. Very nice. |

This is well captured, but for me, his head on the ground coupled with the darkness by his nose makes this such a sad image. I don't see the darkness here as evoking a sense of floating. The detail you've captured is nicely done. |

This is an African Iris so to weather the brutal heat and sun they open for one day only. I was used to bearded iris that comes in a variety of colors and have lasting blooms. |

Attached is the original bud. I cleaned up the stem, straightened it and converted to monochrome. not the best decision perhaps? |

46 images in that short amount of time, times how many sets - the editing would be a nightmare for me as I sometimes struggle over just a few...
This is another great image you've shared. The colors, composition, background and texture are very pleasing to look at. Leaving the pot rim in the image grounds the flower; even the little weed on the edge of the pot on the right helps the balance.
Regarding the crisp texture of the flower petals - in addition to focus stacking you mention post processing to highlight and showplace the bloom. Are you using plug-ins with your post processing? |

This is a nice image that has so many interesting facets to it. Your composition is well done and I'm glad to see the stem not coming from the corner. Some are a fan of this, but for me, not so much. Your stem coming from the bottom and slightly to the left (for me anyway) helps it stand alone rather part of the image edge. I think the increased contrast and sharpness does enhance what you've captured.
Strange that the pussy willow blooms (?) are so soft now that I see your rendition of the buds. As a kid we had a giant pussy willow in the yard, but I never thought to look at the buds. Glad you shared - good eye! |

This flower is at a pleasant angle and I like the way the stem doesn't come out directly from the corner. It is a personal preference as I know some people prefer a corner "entry" for a stem. The colors are fun and there's a luminous quality to the petals. Is the break in the background on the top of the flower a post processing issue? Depending on the subject, I find it difficult to adjust a background, particularly when the background is textured. Like Nancy, I like the lighting on the striated petals. |

One of the few things I missed after moving were the spring bulbs, particularly the tulips. The Breck's catalog would come every year and would never cease to amaze at all the variations of tulips.
Your fringe tulip is so happy to look at and the colors scream "look at me!!!" I do agree the image is grainy, but your composition is good and the colors are terrific - blending from pink to yellow, then green in the stem. I like it. |

I agree with you. When I worked to increase the texture of her fur, I liked the look. But then doubt rolled in, and thought it might be too much. |

Hi Denise! The twig coming out of the tree trunk was a good catch. I agree with Charlie that bumping up the contrast and vibrancy helps the twig pop, and allows for the interesting components of the tree trunk to show; specifically the spanish moss and green discoloration. The image made me smile as soon as I saw it - reminds me of the Florida landscape when I attempt bird shots. |
