The barn was too close to the road, and my fence hopping days are probably gone. I could have isolated the bull, then flipped him, but hindsight is always better. Landscape images are something I need to improve as I rarely take them.
The clouds are something I was surprised with when I first came to Florida. Big clear skies here because of very little industry, and it's flat. Even on the hottest days the fronts push over this large peninsula. |

The bottom is too busy and confusing. Maybe just a partial piece of the barn would have been better...see above and let me know what you think. |

I had cropped off some of the left already because of some distracting elements. So lesson learned to always straighten first! I'm now thinking I should have taken a smaller piece of this image. |

I thought the same thing before reading the comments! Yes that was my suggestion as well. I might also crop off a bit on the right so the house is a little more off center. It's still May and there remains remnants of snow. That and the birch trees tells me that this lonely house may get even more lonely in the winter.
The monochrome version does give this more image more push, and the mountain behind is both majestic and dramatic. |

This was definitely worth your time. Most of my photography is in the macro world so when I look at your image I do have a couple of ideas. The dust specks are distracting and I think seeing the light source is as well. Seeing the light source reminds me that this is not a "natural" image. Macro takes so much set-up, adjusting light, depth of field, angle of the shot, etc. But in the end, the image appears as if it came about naturally. Light can be a real challenge here, so a bright led with a diffuser is always good. The detail in the water drops and the reflection in them are so interesting. |

Your canon shots really brings me back in time. Civil War reenactments are not only an interesting way to remember the past, but when comparing them to modern warfare, it's almost beyond comprehension soldiers fought this way.
The composition is very well done as is your crop of both the right and bottom of the image. The smoke could be a bit whiter perhaps, but not so much that it would stand out from the tint. A nice image showing action and I too can hear the canon going off. |

This is a frightening bridge even for those without a fear of bridge crossings. Add in some fog and it seems as though you're driving straight up into the sky.
The simplicity of this image is very pleasant and composition is really well done. I don't mind the white area on the right. Perhaps toning down the left would be a little less distracting to me, although the two white areas somehow tether the image. Bumping up the contrast is a good thought. |

Hi Russ and welcome to the group!
I agree with the comments above - flipping the stem, more contrast and decreasing the brightness in the center makes these two old sods stand out more. As Asbjorn said above, I too thought they were pumpkins at first. The monochrome image is more interesting in my opinion. Your first image to this group really sparked an interest as everyone tried to play with it. You chose a great subject. |

As always I applaud your result; challenge completed successfully regarding backlighting and the whites are beautifully managed. At first I wasn't crazy about the subject. The fact that it's an old crinkled bud makes me want to trim it and the left lower leaf, off the image. It needs to be sprayed as well because of the infestation of aphids. Which brings me to this...
I brought one of my images to a recent critique, where I was told the image made the judge want to reach in and "fix it." The image was discussed at length and received high marks. That's how I feel about this image. It really caused a reaction well beyond composition and technique. Prompted me to think about what are we trying to achieve. Good job. |

So I'm going to be the outlier here...
This is a great image and I really like the mask. It does look like a pacifier! But I'm not a fan of all the activity in the reflection. I like the reflections, (and I knew that was you), but maybe the crowd on the right hand side in the stands could be toned down. I find the white component in the sunglasses a bit of a distraction. The sharpness of her hair, coat fur and weave in the mask is great. |

Welcome Jeff! This is an interesting image. Your technique is a nice change from the norm and I applaud you for making the effort. Although I enjoy different techniques, they are most often not as successful as this. I believe your crop and composition is well done - the colors are pleasing as well. I'm wondering too if there's too much of a separation of the subject from the background. And yet - maybe not. It almost looks like a piece of glass is in between the branch and the background.
Like Peter, I couldn't help myself and I had to poke around in the image. |

I don't see the need for a final crop either - the colors are so engaging. To me this looks like a dancing umbrella. |

Angela - love the drop this month! The bubble with its red base and the red in the "jumping" stem are great! Sharp and composition is very well done, even though I would like to see a little more of the base. Maybe your background is too close to your subject? Farther back would increase the blur and therefore might look cleaner to you. It doesn't look dirty to me, just a bit distracting because it's very bright.

I did use all 26 slices, manually moving my focus around the tip. Tethering is a good idea. After I did my post processing of cleaning up the stray fibers, etc., I put it "away" for a day or 2. If was only after I submitted it did I see that the reflection was cut off. How could I have not seen it? Making sure the tip itself was in focus, I think some tunnel vision came into play here. |
