32 Dec 19 Comment Apologies for the late comment Michael. My eye didn't go directly to the white sky, but rather the pipes and street dirt on the left. From reading the comments above I know that the pipes drew you into the lane, but to me, they contradict the old world feel of the rest of the image. Just personal taste here. One thing is certain though - I too feel like I'm standing there in the lane. Dec 27th
32 Dec 19 Comment Before I read your image summary, I looked at the image and saw the difference between the two girls in their stances. It would be interesting as Diana suggests to take images of each girl separately as they dance and see where it goes. They have such sweet faces and I'm sure would absolutely lovegetting their picture taken. Dec 27th
32 Dec 19 Comment Apologies for such a late comment Diana. The holidays seem to come up so fast and I lost all track of time.

Since I've never been to Liverpool, I find this image very unusual and absolutely striking. I like the modification Stephen provided as it helped to balance the image for me, particularly the round section with the 5 windows.

The inside shot is interesting to me as well. The Catholic Churches of recent times (at least over here) are being built in this more rounded shape. They also have the very welcome addition of padded pews!

32 Dec 19 Comment Great capture! I've seen this train when I was in Cass WV. Sepia is definitely the appropriate choice here. Dec 27th
32 Dec 19 Reply I tried the entire knife but the position of the blade seemed to send the viewer out the back of the upper left. This didn't do well in competition either. Dec 12th
32 Dec 19 Reply Thanks Tom. I didn't try that but it's a good idea. Dec 11th

65 Dec 19 Comment When I see Melanie Kern-Favilla's work, I see soft sculptured curves that are strong and dynamic - curves that emote life and movement and expression.

With this image, you've done well in capturing shadows and shading across the dried rose, and the texture is terrific. However, the angle created between the stem and rose head is too harsh (in my opinion), and the dead head of the rose brings forth a mood that I don't wish to visit for any great length of time.

As for the background, black is the only way to go.

65 Dec 19 Comment The colors are very dynamic and the way you handled the background is nicely done. As for the petals, I do think they're a bit too soft, particularly on the upper left & upper right sections of the flower. There's also a halo effect on the 2 petals.

You're right about the Nikon 70-200mm lens having a nice bokeh. I own the same lens. I've never used an extension tube with this lens - it's an interesting idea.

65 Dec 19 Comment Your Scottish Highland Cow (Coo) makes for a very nice image, and the lighting you've chosen for her is really pleasant. Angela is correct regarding the Endust - it works particularly well if you spray it on a swiffer (make sure you let it dry) and keep wiping. It will help for a little while anyway. The reflection you created is nicely done, but I also really like Peter's creativity. Gives the cow a dynamic feel. Nice job. Dec 27th
65 Dec 19 Comment I've never heard of frog workshop. As Peter mentions above, I agree that the DOF isn't an issue because the background works well here and isn't overwhelming. The various spots are a little distracting so I would clean them up. Is that you reflected in the frog's eye? Dec 27th
65 Dec 19 Reply Thank you Angela. I liked this little guy and made sure I left the tiny acorn in intentionally. The image seemed more static without it. Dec 27th
65 Dec 19 Reply Peter, I went back and forth trying to determine what type of background would be best - one where I gave the little shroom context vs. a dark background that isolated him. I agree that the dark background works. Dec 24th
