32 Mar 18 Comment I'm partial to the color shot. The halo effect is noticeable around the wings and legs the mono version. The brightness of the wing in the color image would provide more detail. The composition is nice and capturing the bird facing slightly toward the camera really adds to the image. Mar 22nd
32 Mar 18 Reply I absolutely agree with you Diana. This is a great example of why it can be a good idea to take a bit of time between post-processing and then reviewing what you had done. Mar 22nd

65 Mar 18 Comment Hi Angela and welcome to the group. I'm with Janos on this one. I've been stung a few times by these small monsters and seeing them up close mades me cringe. As for the image itself, the background does seem a bit bright. Seeing the entire daisy would have been nice, but often it's a challenge just to capture the insect. Nice color saturation and I would be interested to know what type of lens you used. Mar 25th
65 Mar 18 Comment Hi Anika! I never got a chance to welcome you to the group, so welcome! Nice creativity with the Koi. We used to have a pond filled with Koi before we moved to Florida and I miss them! Somehow I think it's too hot for them here.

I have the same observations as Charles as far as the hot spots and composition and LuAnn makes some great suggestions. Hanging the pendant and photographing it vertically using a diffuser would give you the ability to see more of the necklace and provide more options. You would be able to control your background as well, perhaps a bit less in focus which would bring the pendant more forward and giving you more depth.

Extension tubes are extremely hard for me to work with and then hand held...I applaud you for that and your sculpting ability.

65 Mar 18 Comment I really like this image and is one of the things I miss most about being in Florida...the spring bulbs. I too would have liked to see the whole in the petal filled in, but I understand how missing it can happen. The stem could have been either soft or sharp but darker. I learned the hard way that sometimes I see things when I leave the image alone for a day or two. Mar 24th
65 Mar 18 Comment My first instinct was the same as Mary's - are they clean.? The background isn't an issue for me although I understand LuAnn's suggestion. The white shine on the left is more bothersome to me. The angle does bother me as it seems the clippers are going to slide off the table on the left side. I really like the purple reflection which I think adds to the image. Mar 24th
65 Mar 18 Comment Hi Janos. I like the colors you have incorporated in this image. I agree with Charles that a point of focus is necessary and that the eye follows the image pattern. I find the big blue crystal is my starting point, but then I move to the bottom right. I'm going to follow Mary's suggestion and look into Controlmynikon. It's worth trying I think. Your exposure is very nice and gives your image a luminous quality. Mar 22nd
65 Mar 18 Comment Hi LuAnn, Beautiful colors. You don't mention if you used a tripod. For a macro shot to truly be tack sharp, first focus on your image, then use your camera's zoom feature and zoom in as close as possible. Then fine tune the focus. Maybe you did do that but just didn't mention it. Mar 22nd
65 Mar 18 Reply Thanks Mary. All the nurseries and farm markets here allow photos, some ask if I'll put it on their facebook page. I try to take photos everywhere because we have a lot of opportunity being warm all the time. I always ask first though.

I don't mind some softness but I know the trend is to do some photo stacking so the entire image is in sharp focus.

65 Mar 18 Reply Hi LuAnn thank you for your comments. Florida has been really nice this winter, and with all the nor'easters I don't mind that I left NJ. So much ice.

I agree with you the image is a bit dark - I tend to make many of my images too dark so to see the flower brighter does add to the "pinkness". Not only did you do a nice job, but I really appreciate describing how you did it. It helps a lot. I haven't used Lightroom in a very long time. I started out with Lightroom, but moved over to photoshop. I think I might give it a try although it's been years.

I hope you warm up soon!
