Thanks Carol. I try to replicate your results with curves but I don't get the the result I need. There's just something missing with this image so I appreciate your suggestions. |

Nicely done and quite a difference from the color version. I may have brought down the brightness of his white hair on the left side of his head to reduce the sharp white/black contrast. The capture of the man's small, slight smile is great. It's hard to imagine what he's thinking, but seems to be enjoying himself well enough as his eyes are smiling too. I can't imagine sitting that way on block. |

Do you think it's too dark? |

The mono gives the image more of an old world feel and I like that better. The background gives just enough detail without being dominant. I agree with Diana that the face is a bit shiny, and also the knuckles. The image becomes darker as you move downward, but the knuckles remain bright and shiny so I'm thinking they should be toned down a bit as well. Interesting to me that although the man's clothing is somewhat reserved, his belt has quite an interesting pattern. |

I think it's lovely. It's as if you're looking through a window into the past. The dark round branches above the plantation seem a bit heavy and dark to me while the darker reflection provides a nice weight. |

The detail is well done and the texture on this tree is great. Perhaps blurring the background a bit as well as darkening would decrease the distraction. |

Welcome Angela!
My in-laws are from Cornwall Canada. The image you've posted is a good one. The clarity of the butterfly is very good, and I particularly like how the hairs from one of the legs is so visible against the blurred leaf background. I'm finding the leaves in the bottom left corner to be a bit distracting. Perhaps cloning them out would be an option, particularly where there's a hint of other butterfly legs. The choice of monochrome is nice. Good image!
Have a great trip! |

Mary you did a nice job on the clarity of the orange hairs sticking up on the neck joint and all around the body and the sharpness of the water droplets emphasizing the body. The water droplet on the back right is particularly nice as it reflects the orange hairs. Like Janos I don't mind the legs not being sharp as it underscores what's going on with the beetle. |

The little bears are all clear as always your technical ability is great. some of the gummy bears look as if they're sad as they look down at their reflection. I agree with Janos that perhaps a more clearly defined center of focus would add more interest. Just curious - was your light straight on? Some bears seem as if that was the case, others not so much. |

Janos I applaud your ability to take such a sharp, crisp image handheld. This is a nice image and although I could tell it was a mushroom, it encouraged other possibilities such as an alien spaceship or a dinner plate perhaps. I might have taken down the brightness of the orange object in the background just a bit more, but leaving it in gives the image balance. |

Thanks Janos. I agree that the sharpness should be better. I'm glad you saw the hand because that's what I saw as well. |
