Actually I haven't thought of blending until recently. This month I put in my first composite (see group 65) so at least it's a start although I need practice there as well. I don't use curves very often - instead I rely heavily (too heavily maybe) on Nik software. This month I'll back off on a bit Nik and see what I can do in PS.
The four tree crop is more pleasing and the addition of the blended flowers provides a feeling of hope rather than desolation. Hope is much better. Thanks Carol. |

Upgrade and no more Nik availability...very sad news indeed. |

Very nice image with the three girls, and I like how the littlest one is looking just over the edge and not focused on the camera. The framing is great as is the texture. I may have cloned out the Mickey Mouse on the one girl's shirt to encourage a "timeless" quality. I too would expect this to do well in competition. |

I agree that the darker base area should remain as it grounds the image. Your monochrome adjustments make the image very peaceful to look at, but not sure if it would do well in competition. |

You're absolutely right - shadowing would make a big difference.

This is a really an amazing image to me. The small plastic bottle-like things are not something I've ever seen before. The sharpness and color of the eggs is great as well as the sharpness of the leaf to the right. On the left the leaf is a bit out of focus which helps keep the attention on the bugs. I can't look at this image for too long though because it really seems like I can hear and see the bugs moving. Nice job. |

For me, the concept of having something emerge from the darkness brings thoughts of coming into the light better, bigger, stronger than before. When I look at this image, it evokes much different thoughts and feelings. Here, I found myself thinking about this poor little flower, how it had been not long ago nature's celebration of life. But now it will soon cease to exist. It is for me, moving into the darkness of finality. So the image definitely had a strong impact, but maybe not the impact you intended.
The pattern of the petals really adds to the image and are razor sharp as always. I might have darkened the top 2 or 3 sepals as my eye is drawn up to that area. This is a great image that made me stop and stay for a while. |
