Hi Richard: A good demonstration with a 100mm macro lens set at f/2.8 aperture and the shallow depth of field it provides in this situation with the coin lying on a flat surface. Certain types of close-in pictures look great using focus stacking so everything is tack sharp from immediate foreground to far background. Other types of close-in pictures look good with a out of focus blurred background that supports the subject well. It all depends on the subject and how the photographer wants to present it. |

Good point Neal regarding the dark stems, that is easy to fix and I will do so. |

Hi Phyllis: You have created a very interesting flower image. The soft orange colors of the flowers blend in well with the out of focus orange background with the hint of green in the upper left corner. To me this picture has an overall feeling of softness with the type of lighting used which fits these flowers very well. Really nice !! |

Hi Barbara: The golden yellow flower is very dramatic against the jet black background, the image carries a lot of impact. With your focus stacking you have achieved very sharp detail in the central flower hub and petals. From a composition standpoint would like to see a little more "breathing room" at the top of the frame as the central flower hub is a little too close to the top of the picture frame. Nice Work!! |

Hi Charles: A very creative and well thought out picture. As Barbara points out the water droplets each renders very sharply the out of focus starburst in the background. I do like the fact you placed the largest droplet dead center which forms a nice hub for the outer droplets. The dark background is very effective. Excellent work !! |

Hi Alane: From a pure nature photography standpoint this picture shows the deteriorated state of this plant and berries well. The main clump of berries is sharp with some sharpness fall off the background which is okay in this instance. One small "nit", I would tone down the bright leaves in the upper right corner and also several small bright areas at the bottom of the frame. |

Hi Neal: Certainly a nice rendition of a spider with very sharp details. One thing using flash does is highlight each little hair so they stand out really well, and flash does this aspect better than available light would. A downside to using flash is it tends to burn out white details in some cases. Composition is well done and background handled well without any distractions. I like the soft out of focus green areas in your background as I think they make a nature close-up like this more authentic. Well done !! |
