Hi Alane: To me your color version has far greater impact and interest than the monochrome, it kind of jumps off the screen at you when it appears. The colors in the bracelets and then the dark blue-purple background adds that final touch. Good Work !! |

Hi Gary: I experimented with various backgrounds, nothing seemed to work as well as black, so went with it. Regarding composition; the flower petals are cropped on the top and two sides, I opted to leave the bottom petals uncropped as I liked the over all balance of the composition. |

You did a good job of cloning, cannot see any trace of red. Looks good to me. |

Hi Richard: Wonderful nature image. Amazed you could obtain that much depth of field on the butterfly using 500mm lens at f/8, the butterfly looks sharp except for the right upper wing tip which to me is okay if that wing tip is slightly soft. Background is a bit busy, however it is well out of focus, in a perfect world I would like to see a bit more stem under the flower the butterfly is perched on, but you did good to be able to get this shot as is. Your image seems noise free shot at ISO 3200, these new camera bodies are amazing these days shooting at ISO 3200 without digital noise making its appearance. |

Hi Priscilla: Like the darkened background, it does not compete for attention or distract from the pink and white flower. Somehow I do not think the red flower at the bottom right corner fits in well, think I would clone it out. |

Hi Barbara: Nice close in picture of the Rhododendron bud. The bud is not dead centered but biased slightly to the right, a good idea in my opinion. Neal has a good idea in regards to darkening the light green leaves down somewhat, this would make the Rhody bud stand out more from the background. Using aperture of f/5.6 provided good sharpness on the bud with the leaves slightly soft in focus. |

Hi Gary: Unique and interesting subject. The pictures I have seen photographed with the Lensbaby all feature very shallow depth of field with just a small area in the picture in sharp focus with a lot of out of focus areas as shown here. To me the out of focus rocks do not add anything to this picture, but everyone has their own vision and that is what makes photography interesting. |

Hi Alane: A very original subject and the hands against the dark background was a good choice. I do agree with Neal that better sharpness front to back on the hands would have been desirable. Would suggest using a much higher ISO and setting the lens aperture to f/16 would have brought those interesting bracelets into much better focus. |

Hi Neal: You seem to have an endless supply of these really fascinating insect pictures, they are kind of your trademark as they are so unique in the way you approach these from a photography standpoint. This version is nicely composed, with spot on exposure, super sharpness, and then as always your choice of border color is well chosen to blend in with the subject. The jet black background supports the subject well. |
