Hi Priscilla: It is certainly fun to "play around" with various filters to see what one can come up with. You never quite know what the outcome will be. Even more fun sitting at the computer experimenting in the dead of winter watching it snow outdoors. |

Hi Pat: Very well done butterfly image in all aspects. Am amazed you could provide this sharp detail on the butterfly shooting at 200mm at 1/125 second hand held. You have very steady hands, but also likely had your VR turned on. This macro picture is a good example of selective focus, your lens setting of f/5.6 allowed just enough depth of field on the butterfly and blue flowers, then allowed the background to be a very pleasant out of focus green. The soft background supports the butterfly well and is not the least bit distracting. KUDOS! |

Hi Madhu: Welcome to Macro--Close-up Group 63. Very sharp detail on the Spider, the use of flash really made the colors "pop" and it stands out well from the dark background. As the inter-face of our website is black, and if your background is also black, you may want to consider using a small white or colored border to frame your image so we can easily distinguish where the picture ends and the black interface of our website begins. |

Hi Lisa: Just a cute humorous picture. To me the light background works in this image; what I would do is to tone down the left side of the flower petal so it is not quite as bright in tone. The detail in the eye is fascinating. |

Hi Neal: You have certainly mastered your focus stacking program as the Lily flower is sharp front to back. Your general composition seems a bit busy at least to me. What I think would improve your image is to tone down the bright colors in the background as they tend to draw your attention away from the Lily flower. |

Hi Rosa: In my opinion you have too many parts of the flower that are not in focus, you need all of the stamens in sharp focus for the image to be effective, then the out of focus back petal is distracting also. You could try stopping the lens down to f/16, then I doubt even that small F stop would bring all of the stamens in sharp focus. If you do focus stacking as Neal does you could try that, however I am not certain if you could obtain enough depth of field to get the flower petal at the bottom in sharp focus. You may want to just concentrate on the stamens and not try to include the back petal.
Congratulations on your Chicago image being selected for the showcase, you have a good seeing eye to spot that to begin with, and did a great job of capturing the image. KUDOS !! |
