Hello Khai: Under our new heading MACRO/CLOSE-UP I guess your hawk portrait is a close up. Sharp feather detail and a good high light in the eye, the open beak adds a point of interest. There is an odd digital artifact in the lower right corner, a line that does not look quite right to me. This could easily be cloned so it blends in the background. |

Hi Rosangela: In my opinion the first original Pat just posted is a better image than the other. The front of the head is sharp and also the picture is better exposed and has more life. I would use a smaller aperture on these caterpillar pictures, using f/2.8 does not provide you with nearly enough depth of field. I would use at least f/11 and probably f/16 to obtain a lot better sharpness on the caterpillar. At this magnification you will never be able to get the entire caterpillar sharp shooting it head on even at f/16. As mentioned in my previous post at your next opportunity try shooting the subject straight on, instead of head on. Just some thoughts !! |

HI Priscilla: It appears you have a picture of leaf springs supported by the shackle, a common part on trucks. Composed well with the top part of the leaf springs included in the upper right corner. The shackle and leaf springs do not seem really tack sharp to me. You do not mention the use of a tripod, it may have been a good idea to use it on this picture to attain maximum sharpness. Good Subject. |

Hi Pat: A very soft and dreamy presentation. The lighting in most greenhouses is diffused and that situation worked well in your flower portrait. Good example of selective focus, just the center of the flower is in sharp focus. |

Hi Lisa: Just perfect presentation in every possible way; technical quality is spot on, good composition, very interesting subject, humorous. A very thin border would define the subject area against the black interface of our web page.

Hi Rosangela: You have a difficult habitat setting to be able to make a really good photo of the caterpillar, there are too many other distractions that compete with the main subject. All of the out of focus leaves and the out of focus section of the caterpillar are distracting, You managed good focus on the head part and that is a positive. My personal opinion would be to simplify the setting; if you can get the caterpillar to cooperate and crawl along a stem and then shoot the subject straight on at the whole body so all of the caterpillar is in sharp focus. You really need to have the complete caterpillar in sharp focus. The dark blue background is a good choice. Would give you an "A plus" for effort, that is for certain. |
