Hi Priscilla: For much of my macro work I use a soft-gold reflector to add just a smidge of light to the front of the subject. Photo-flex makes these in sizes from 12" to 48" and even larger. The smaller sizes fold up and do not take much room in your camera bag, for instance the 22" size will fit easily in my photo back pack. You can look at these reflectors at your local full service camera store. |

Charles: I really like this cropping from the top, also the right hand side versus your original. This new cropped version deemphasizes the top petal somewhat and in my opinion improves the picture. Also you have cropped from the right in order to center the picture from side to side perfectly. I think your composition works very well in this flower image. The rule of thirds does not apply to every image. |

HI Khai: Really like the flipped version with the flower on the right, the green leaf provides a good leading line into the flower. In my opinion this is perfect composition with the flower flipped. Great Shot. |

Hi Karen: Pleased you like "Agapanthus". There are many hybrids that have been created from the original species plant from South Africa, I am not certain if my picture is of a hybrid variety or the original species plant. It will grow in USDA zones 9-11 where the winter temperature is never lower than 25 degrees. My picture was photographed in a public botanical garden in Central California. We found this plant to be used widely in all types of landscaping in California. |

Hi Priscilla: A really nice presentation of a white flower with the orange central part placed near a 1/3 power point area in the frame. The glass enclosed room supplied excellent soft lighting with perfect exposure on the flower petals, the soft petal detail is so well captured and really sets the mood for this picture. Nice Work! |

Interesting subjects to photograph, probably would not have thought to do this myself. Technically well done; the shallow depth of field using f/6.3 allowed the background coins to be well out of focus so they did not become a distraction, and made a good backdrop. The slight diagonal presentation of the 4 coins is well done, much nicer than exactly straight up and down. The only nit I can see is the dark area at the right of the four coins; if the bottom coins were positioned slightly more to the left your background would have been improved. The blue, tan and bronze colors of the coins adds interest. |

Hi Khai: Great capture of the Sunflower, has a lot of impact when it comes up on the monitor. Technically very well done in all aspects, the 28-300mm zoom seems very sharp at 70mm and f/8. Nice composition as presented, the yellow Sunflower really stands out well against the out of focus dark green background. In my opinion this picture could also be flipped horizontally so the flower was on the right side of the frame; the leaf would serve as a good leading line from the left into the yellow flower. Very good flower picture. |

Hi Lisa: When this picture came up on the monitor it immediately grabbed my attention. This is what good photography should do in my opinion. The insects as presented are very effective, certainly creative capture. Really like the white background, a perfect backdrop for this subject as you can see the white background through the transparent wings. Composition works great in the pano format. Excellent Work!! |

Hi Karen: An interesting subject well presented. In my opinion having the rusty chain centered in the vertical format works well with this particular image. You could have the chain biased slightly to the right side, but to me it would not improve the composition you have presented. I tend to like warm colors, the rusty chain and hook blend together well. |

Hi Charles: In my opinion excellent technical qualities, cannot see anything to improve on; all of your post processing work is very well done. The only comment I would have regarding composition is the top petal running out of the top of the frame, somehow does not seem artistically right. If you crop from the top about half way down to the two horizontal petals it seems to minimize this effect and I think it improves the picture from a composition standpoint. The dark blue out of focus background supports the orange flower very well. Very Good Work !! |
