Hi Lisa: I do not think your picture seems to be lacking "something", it is excellent. PSA judging sometimes is not consistent, if a certain judge on a panel does not photograph a certain type of subject, they will sometimes not have an appreciation of just how good an image is, therefore not score it as high as they should. Just the way it is!! |

Hi Priscilla: Interesting way you have composed the two Orchids, one directly above the other. We grow Orchids at home, and I find them very hard to photograph in regards to the orchid flower looking razor sharp. Due to the structure of the flower the colors tend to run together and it is very difficult to get that very sharply defined line between the colors. At f/8 you did very well to show detail in the white petals, as white flower petals are a real challenge. |

Hi Pat: An interesting idea for a photograph for sure. You have placed the old pencil in just the right place in the picture; you probably could have a little more of the pencil showing, as the red color of the pencil would add a little more color to your image. Creative Thinking !! |

Hello Khai: Great subject against a well diffused natural looking background with sharp detail on the butterfly. The leaf the butterfly is sitting on has a lot of bright reflections from above, which I think takes away some impact from the lovely butterfly. This situation is very easy to fix with some additional post processing using your "remove highlights tool" |

Hi Lisa: A very well done image in every aspect with the flower and Tiger-legged Frog. The lime green background fits the subject very well and I really like your border treatment. Excellent image !! |

Hi Karen: I like the overall colors in this picture, and I think the composition is fine as photographed. You do not mention if you used a tripod or handheld the camera, however in my honest opinion I think you needed to have the image in sharp focus from front to back to have the greatest impact. Perhaps with your camera on a tripod and your macro lens set to at least f/16 you probably would have been able to achieve a sharper picture overall. An interesting subject non the less. |

Hi Charles, A very fine selective focus image of a botanical subject composed very well. I like your selective focus treatment, the picture has a dreamy feel which works well with the light green coloration of the lily leaves. You have sharp focus on the left side of the right leaf, and then your focus tails off in both directions, more so to the upper left corner. The choice of f/2.8 was well chosen to create this type of a "look". You do not mention lighting, but it appears to be lit naturally by light coming in one of your outside windows, and it works very well for this subject.
