Priscilla, I like this image you took in the tropical area of the "Domes". I'm not sure what this flower is but I love the structure of the flower. Your choice of F/5 gives good detail in the two main yellow flowers, as well as the white section that protrudes from the yellow. I find the background leaves a bit distracting but given it was taken in a conservatory I'm sure it was hard to move the main flower around too much. Very nice capture. |

Pat, I love the detail of your "Thistle". The F/5 was a good choice for capturing a sharp thistle head but also creating blur in the surrounding thistles. You did an excellent job of blurring the background. What was behind the thistle to create the light, green blurred background? Very nice shot. |

Murphy, I love the colors in your "Blue, Green and Yellow" image. You did well in isolating the blue and yellow Iris in the garden. Your choice of F/8 makes the yellow petals quite sharp while creating a subtle blur of the stems and flowers behind the three focused petals. I think the angle you chose to photograph the Iris perfect; it's a very nice image. |

Khai,
Your choice of F/8 to grab the details of the White Clematis was perfect. The focus on the flower is excellent. I would like to see more blur in the background leaves. The background Charles has on his image would compliment your White Clematis image. Perhaps Charles will share with us how he managed to achieve the level of blur he did. Very nice image. |

Lisa, I love this image of the grip. I like how the grip runs parallel to the brown wood and the green, rusted metal background. The background colors compliment the yellow of the grip. Excellent macro, grunge shot of the rusted tool. |

Charles, you've learned well from your friends and teachers on how to isolate the flowers and make them pop to produce this image. Your final image looks fantastic. The darker green back background makes the pinks and yellow of the flower pop. The water droplets add interest to the image. I've attended a Mike Moat's workshop and know that he prints blurred backgrounds to hold behind flowers to isolate them. Are you willing to share how you isolated this flower to get the wonderful background you have? |
