I, too, find this insect interesting and understand the challenge in DoF and capturing a sharply focused image when the insect isn't posing for the camera. Yes, the geometric pattern of the folded wings is interesting to me and this region is well defined in the image.
The vibrant green is beautiful to me, but in this case I also find that it competes with the subject. |

Hi Lori,
Yes, I also am drawn to the lovely depth of color and textures that are revealed for the flower buds and the sense of dramatic lighting. The combo of deep pinks and green is very appealing to me. I'm curious about wanting to inspect the upper bloom and this holds my attention.

Hi Karen,
I also admire the lighting and think the sunflower is beautifully captured. To my eye the separation that you had planned to show the area behind the vase and the surface of the table was successful. I do like the idea of including the clipper and cut stem and their placement in the frame, because they suggest a possible narrative to me.
As others have mentioned the bold red of the clipper handles pose a distraction. Also, the neck of the vase is somewhat difficult to discern from the background, but perhaps this was your intent? |

Hi Ruth,
I find the arrangement of the onions( possibly shallots?) interesting and enhanced by the play of light on the skins. To my eye, the dimensions of the onions are well defined and the shadow add further interest. So well done, I think
I think when viewed at a distance the luminance noise (e.g., tiny specs of light at the adventitious roots) is not noticeable. It makes me a bit uneasy, however, to see the onions so close to the edge the base on which they are lying. |

Hello Donald,
To my eye the colors of the Dahlia are beautifully captured and the focus on the bloom is tack sharp, revealing details of its beautiful pattern Tgank you for sharing your post processing work flow.
I do like Frank's treat because the bloom is enlarged, however viewing it supported by the lovely leaves is so pleasing to me. Thanks for sharing this one |

i find these amazing, crisp details fascinating and the level of contrast bold but very pleasing. To my eye, the bokeh effect of in the background is soothing and adds a sense of depth to the image. The overlapping petals of these Iris twins create such an interesting pattern which holds my attention. To me, this is a beautiful image! |

Thanks, Frank, for your candid response. I was just striving for an original take on flowers in a vase, rather than a shadow free image or one with a reflection. I had hoped the soft shadows would add some greater depth and possibly add interest. Thanks for letting me know that they may detract from the subject. |

I am drawn to the various textures and details in this image and admire the lush, vibrant greens! Thank you for sharing this lovely image.
Frank's suggestions to balance the brightness and for cropping look good, too. |
