Hello, Ruth!
The moodiness conveyed by this capture holds my attention and the inclusion of the kernels presents an interesting idea. The color hues and textures are so pleasing to me.
I wish there were more separation of the subjects from the background and that the the area at camera left was visible.
Based on my experience, I agree with the necessity of making repeated attempts at light painting a composition and evaluating each outcome until the intended lighting is achieved. For me this is both effective and efficient.
Using focus stacking for light painting with a moving light source does not make sense to me, as several variables (e.g., timing of movements, duration of light exposure to given points of interest, etc.) are put into play every time a new light-painting attempt is executed.

Hello Lori!
I enjoy admiring the parastichies of sunflowers and I interpret this as the emphasis of your image, further highlighted by the choice of B&W. To my eye, the crop is very pleasing. The bokeh effect in the background is not distracting to me but helpful in conveying context.
I wish the entire center were sharp and suspect the angle of the camera lens relative to the flower, or the windy conditions that you mention, contributed to the bit of softness that is present. |

Hi Tom,
The veil created by those aerial roots and the perspective used to capture the image are interesting to me. Well spotted!
I concur with the suggestions on lighting of the tree.
Looking forward to getting your comments on our images, too. Thanks. |

Hi Karen,
I think you've captured a perfect pink and the curve of the rose enhances its beauty for me.
Did you work with three different layers (blooming rose, leaves for a different rose, background treated with the mixer brush)? If so, I think the combination appears flawless.
I'd also suggest boosting the sharpening of the petals a bit, although you may prefer conveying the softness of those lovely rose petals. |

Hi Ruth, I agree that my preference is to go with the whole picture. I made the types of adjustments that you suggested and think they help to direct attention to the one bloom. Thanks!

Thanks, Melissa. I used a diffuser and did have a small flashlight directed at the one bloom that was more saturated than the rest, however it was a bright day.
You asked about post processing. I shot this in camera raw, and made global adjustments to the color image. |

Thanks, Karen. My intent, however, was not to isolate the center bloom that faces in the opposite direction from the others, but to call attention to it as a mass shot of Lilies. |

Hi Bev,
This color pallet is so cherry and pleasing to me! The background complements the blooms and the camera perspective adds interest for me.
I'm thinking that there's a bumblebee on the move in the uppermost flower…if so,
the movement and and the bright sunlight make for a challenging capture.

Hi Donald,
Wow, these colorful blooms convey a sense of cheer and delicacy to me. I find it exciting to see the developing buds and enjoy the silky textures in the background.
To me, the bright area in the upper left of the frame draws my attention away from the beautiful blooms a bit. |

Hi Fred,
The rich purple hues against the bronze background appeal to me. To my eye, the focus on the center of the blooms are spot on! I think the hanging flower adds interest for me. The background textures are pleasing to me.
I also wish that the the crop is a bit too tight. |

Hi Frank,
I also like seeing the textures on the flower and the dew drops glistening as if they were diamonds! To me the hint of details in the background provide context and add to a sense of natural beauty.
I enjoyed enlarging this image to admire it. Would you consider cloning out the specs of black visible on the petals? I didn't notice these initially. |
