Lance, I agree with your thinking. The two suggestions are entirely at the artist's discretion, but might be of interest to explore. |

Hi, Ruth!
I enjoy the lovely contrasts in this image of some of my favorite fruits! The soft shadows and lighting add interest for me and help convey a three-dimensional effect. I think the use of the cup and saucer are a great idea.
Karen's suggestion about a diagonal balance appeals to me. Also, possibly consider reducing the large amount of negative space at camera left, but allowing enough to show the shape of a shadow for balance. I think Lance's suggestion about adding some context to create a story-telling shot would enhance the impact of the still life. |

Hi Doris,
The play of light is so pleasing to me in this image of a uniquely shaped pepper. My attention is captured by the lovely curves and glossy skin of the pepper. I think the dimensionality of the pepper beautifully revealed.
The small reflections create highlights that reinforce the shape of the pepper but perhaps could be avoided with the use of a circular polarizing filter. Also I can't decide if the natural imperfections of the stem might detract from the beauty of the pepper or complement it. It will be good to learn what others think.

Thanks, Karen. I did focus on the green part of the head rather than the pink down, as I thought that was of most interest. Thank you for your comments! |

Hi, Jim!
Ah! The wonders of a light box/tent are always remarkable to me. Would you share how you set up the lighting for this image because that would help me. Thanks!
My attention is drawn to the various textures and the grain patterns on the slab of wood and lovely contrasts with the interesting patterns of the glazed pottery. The colors in this image have such a pleasing level of saturation for me and to my eye the absence of the majority of refractions and reflections further enhances the image. Perhaps those few light dots around the rim of the pot are from an overhead light source? Nevertheless. I think the roundness and dimensions of the pottery are beautifully conveyed. Thanks, too for the information on post-processing because this helped me understand how you approached the editing.
Seeing the pottery subject on a stable surface helps ground it for me, however I'm not sure about the perspective. This is because I perceive the slab as somewhat tilted and wish I could see it angled to observe the side and make it appear more three dimensional. I'll be curious what others think.

Welcome, Karen!
To my eye this is a lovely capture and the post-processing enhances its beauty!
The color pallet is very soothing to me and reinforces a sense of calm. I noticed that the diagonal area of the Dahlia bloom extending from camera left to the center is in sharp focus compared to the rest of the bloom. I find this interesting because it suggests a dynamic quality and enhances the composition a single bloom for me.
While first admiring the image, I thought that noticeable vignetting had been added. I can, however, detect a slight vignette in the original thumbnail, that may have become move obvious after post-processing. Also, I agree with Jim, about the hint of light pink in the bottom, but it was only a fleeting distraction for me.

The description of your visualization to evoke an emotional response and offer a Gestalt that is much greater than the sum of this image's parts fascinate me. I don't know if a print would be as revealing but to my eye the digital rendering of the original B&W post is wonderful. The synergy between the dreamy, soft bokeh and the tack sharp focus on the center of the bloom convey a sense of tranquility for me. |
