I agree that lowering highlights would work better. I also think shooting from the other side would give an interesting view. This is definitely documentary nature. |

The heron is very well captured with great eyes and feathers. I like how much real estate it commands. I am looking at all the feathers.
I like both backgrounds however in the original my interest remains on the bird. With the textured background I am looking all around because it is also interesting. I still come back to the heron but am aware of the background. I probably prefer the original background but it is not a strong preference.

Your concept makes me smile. I like the colors in the image and the textures are interesting. Were you using a tripod? The original does not look that dark. On a tripod you could have used an ISO of 100 that would have given you less noise. I suggest removing the extensions on the side of the stem. The compete with the main subject. |

What a lovely morning and a lovely capture of it. I like how your tree blocked the sun while leaving hints of it. The clouds in the sky pull my attention and remind me of the beauty of nature. There is calm and peace in the image. Well done. |

In your processed version I like how you treated the rock in the foreground. It became a strong point in the image. The rushing water gives high interest, and the level of your shot brings my eye to the important activity. I think a smaller amount of yellow would still bring the excitement to the image but would make it more realistic. Are you opposed to cloning out the branch or using content - aware fill in the edit tab? Those might work. |

There is so much to like about this starting with the nature story. Great capture of parent feeding young. Your catch light in the eyes works, and I like that you managed to get light in the eyes of both birds. The feathers are sharp. I especially like the small ones on the bird at the right. I see a line that looks like a cobweb at the bottom but don't think you can address that for nature. How did you get such a blurred background with an aperture of f/10? |
