Tom, please explain how you compensate. A high ISO often gives me too much noise. I am curious how you make it work.

Oh, I do like that even more than the one you submitted. The focus on the fish is great, and the feathers are beautiful as well. Great color and great image. |

I thought a while about cleaning up the wings but decided to adhere to PSA nature rules on this aspect. However for another purpose I will do that.
I'm not sure why the images are small. It is 768 px high. That is the limit for a jpg for club competitions.
Suggestions? |

This is such a great nature story, John. I like all the parts of it. Your feathers are so very sharp and draw me into the picture. I wanted to get a better look at the fish and enlarged the image only to find that you could crop the fish and face to have even another powerful image. While I noticed the brown water it did not disturb me.

This is a fun study of nature in it pure form. The leaves on top add to the interest of the study. The see-through tail draws my attention. I would suggest lowering the levels in the soil and adding a vignette to bring my eye to what is most important. You might also dodge the eyes a bit to bring out the white in them.

Carol, I like the color of the water which is pleasing and inviting. I like the splashes the water provides. I do think some of your highlights could be lowered a bit more, especially in the rocks at the top although you did a good job of lowering them from the original.
I wonder why, if you were in harsh light you used such a high ISO? |

I think your crop is a good one. The branches take my eye away from the subject rather than to it. The image is too bright for me. I think it would work better as a monochrome. You could pull out more shadows/details and decrease the harsh light. |

My eyes go straight to the egret's eye. The feathers are sharp. The water has a pleasing color and adds to the whole image. I would crop a small portion rom the top. The bokeh is a bit distracting. |

First of all I am so pleased for your PSA recognition which is well deserved.
I like your composition. In the Grand Canyon it is often tempting to capture a large portion of what you see because it is so very grand. By focusing on this viewpoint I get the feeling of the canyon. Well done. |
