Thank you and that does make sense. It is a composition problem I often have. I get an overwhelming sense of the beauty of a place but have trouble zeroing in on what I need to share.

Everything about the heron is grand. The feathers are crisp, the eye so very sharp, and the composition pulls me in to investigate what is in its mouth. Even the fish holds my interest longer than such catches in other images I've viewed. A very well shot bird. I do think the background is harsh in color. If it were toned down a bit, the overall image would benefit. |

Congratulations on your article. I read it immediately when I got my magazine. Well written.
This is a fabulous treatment of the heron. He does look comical and that is what draws me into the image. The heron is crisp, well positioned, and active. I like your white background. It contributes to the whimsy.

A pretty image, Judith. The spark of light in the water drop adds interest. The colors are attractive and hold my attention. I very much like the green background which complements the yellow Lilly. |

Your image is crisp and the colors are sharp. I like the composition. The feet and talons are grand.
While the twigs are in the picture and it would be great if they were not, this is still a sharp, beautifully colored eagle with a great background.

Carol, I like the composition of your eagle. Its broad wingspan brings power to the image. The eye and beak pull me into the picture. There is good texture in the feathers.
The branches compete with the eagle. Each of us has a different opinion about cloning but if you do not mind, I would suggest getting rid of some of the branches above the eagle's head so they don't compete. Then my attention would go to the eagle's head. The other branches give context and more to the nature story.

I like your treatment of the flowers. Three is a good number, and the flowers curve taking my interest with them. They are quite sharp. I also like the way you added the glow to them. The branches that come from the bottom and are under the spring flower take my eye to the flowers; however the left bud is a bit unclear and leads my eye out of the picture. |

I wondered if that might be the critique but decided to try it nonetheless. I wanted to get an idea of what might have worked. It was such a lovely view.
What suggestions would you give me about aperture and focal point? My aperture was f/11. I was low to the ground but still did not get the shot I wanted.
I cropped the picture but it does not help. |
