I had planned to go back to the dandelion and try the tubes again. However rain stopped me.
Not sure if extension tubes are the answer but I'll keep trying to see. Luckily they were not expensive so if I need to use another plan, I won't mind. |

I am glad you mentioned this. I tend to write my critique and labor over it for a day or two before posting. I put my ideas on a separate paper then save it. I try to write what I think before I look at what others post. If I agree with another post I might edit my post to include it at the end.
However I don't mind having a day or two to give others a chance to reflect before all are posted. We'd have to agree on the number of days. Sometimes life gets in the way and one might be late to post. I don't want to wait for that person. |

What a dramatic scene full of moody subjects. There is darkness in your foreground, then the mountain offers a light of hope I like this just as it is. |

I like this and agree with the others that your colors are strong. Your crocuses remind me of soldiers standing at attention for spring. The 3 foreground flowers lead me to the middle and background flowers. Each area gets sharper or softer depending on the direction. I think that cropping the large distracting bud will give weight to the other flowers especially the sharp ones. |

So many fun things to note . First there are an odd number of birds which is a good point of composition. Additionally, with 5 birds, it is really great that each is separate from the rest. There are no overlapping body parts. We can see an eye in each bird, even the one that is walking away rather than toward us. The reflections give the image a playful nature. Each bird is sharp and natural.
What a grand shot, Tom.

In the monochrome, my interest first is the foreground tree with the white icy branches. In the color images the lit trees in the back catch my attention first; however I’d like to see more of that part of the image. The jpeg catches the lit patch of trees however the rest of the image is a bit flat. The raw has more punch but for me has no one point of interest. I like a point of interest even in a landscape. |

I like the way the swan’s eye, face, neck capture the image then we do notice the rest. I even like the way the middle gray water line connects with the reflection to make a V that frames the total image. The water to the right may or may not be part of the picture. It all works together for a dramatic display. |

Carol, this IS a king of a realm photo. The eagle's eye is wonderfully photographed with a good catch light. The veins in the eyes are clearly shown. There are many leading lines to draw my attention from beak to eye then back again. The eagle’s feathers are quite sharp. I like this image all around. It shows the power of an eagle.
Congratulations on a great image. |

I really need to work more with them. I cannot tell you they are better than a zoom. I don't have a strong opinion other than I need more practice.
I may try another go at a dandelion and control the variables then I'll post it and we can see what was going on. |

Honestly, Sharon, I don't know. I think I had the ISO on auto. This was the second time I have tried using tubes so was unsure how to set my camera. I am also unsure of the compensation. This was a try and see. The exposure compensation might have been from something else that I forgot to change.
Sounds pretty pitiful I think....but you can laugh at me and not with me. Feelings won't be hurt. :) |
