Your eagles are quite sharp. Both have strong eyes and crisp wing feathers. The eagle’s left wing is not as focused; however I see that as movement in flight so it works. Because the plants are obstructing I cropped in closer. I focus more on the eagles, less on the plants. I also think this crop separates the left eagle's face from it wings span. |

OH MY! What a wonderful expression and a sharp owl. The green eyes grab me and are almost a perfect match with the green beak. The feathers are perfectly clear. You have a winner for your competition. If not, I want to see what did win. |

Your colors and tight crop work well, and I like the green pod to the left. The backgrounds don’t bother me at all. I like the whole image.
I wonder what type metering you used and where you metered. I ask because the top of the main flower is a bit soft while the right flowers are sharper. An aperture of 16 should have worked.

As crisp as the whole image is the brown ring color around the face draws me in more than anything. What a wonderful looking bird. You have captured great detail in the feathers…they look a bit like a fur coat people wore in the old days. You captured a great shot under difficult conditions. Bravo to you.
By the way, you could enter this in Tom’s competition for eyes.

The action and nature story of the image is grand. Bird hitting water. The sparkle of water which gives great interest and info. I like the open mouth and the perfect feet position. Composition is first rate.
I think the overall image needs a punch of something to make the bird stand out from its surroundings; just a bit more contrast between them would add more power.

I like the idea of your picture. I would crop out the small patch of sky under the body but that is more a personal preference. I would also use a curves adjustment (or your choice of another method) on the bird’s body. I think there is good texture and detail to be enhanced there. Finally, there is color to be teased from the eye and beak with, perhaps, a dodge tool. |

Oh, I do like what you did with noise reduction. As for the extra line, I went back and forth on that. One thought was it gave more info on its being a spider web line. The other had to do with trying to follow the guidelines for Nature to see how I could enter it in competition.
For printing I do like what you have done but it would then go in Pictorial rather than nature in my home club. Thank you, Mike. I will play with the noise to see if I can follow your lead. I'll also decide in which category I want to enter before I keep processing. |
