Sometimes when I use Topaz Simplify or Impression, it disappoints me by creating a "Topaz look." When this happens, I use a layer mask and "erase" part of the Topaz outcome. Sometimes it improves the look. Try using a layer mask to erase the Topaz river and replacing it with the actual river. The contrast might produce a less standard Topaz output. |

The three men in this photo have on beautiful, colored costumes, but unfortunately the background is also in color. Since the background is on a separate layer try making it black and white. Then the wonderful characters will really stand out. A suggestion if I may. One can darken a background that is on a separate layer a number of ways without having to use the burn tool (if I read your description correctly). Try Ctrl-U (PC), Curves, or Levels. The blue in the background draws the eye away from your very colorful characters. I hope you make them stand out by changing the background. |

This is an exceptional example of how to use the Blend Modes. In addition, the brush work is both subtle and brash--a wonderful combination. I have been working on "Othello & Desdemona" on and off for months in various iterations, and I do not consider it time wasted as I learn from each iteration. Please don't consider your time spent on this beautiful automobile as time wasted. Consider it, as I do, as a learning experience, or maybe as learning experiences. Beautiful art takes time, and your time was well spent. |
