I never understood the concept of "Day of the Dead". Having said that... Images that reflect it always kind of give me the "heebie Jeebies". As far as content goes... I find the brightness on the lower window to be distracting - could you tone it down? Could you crop it out? I'm not sure what to do with it. Maybe leave it alone because it is necessary to show the kid is in a car. I think the "blotches" are a good solution as it brings more attention to the subject in the car. I like the black and white, having not seen the original in color, I tend to think an image like this NEEDS to be black and white. A color version would give a completely different feel to the image. All things considered, this is a strong image. |

I think the image looks like a photo of an old museum art piece. It is interesting what you did with the "after" version - I like the crop and the enhancements. To be perfectly honest, I like the "after" shot better than the "before". |

I did not notice the people at all...not until it was pointed out to me in the above referenced comments. At first glance, I find the image to be a bit too bright in places, due to the severity of the sun. I totally understand it could not be helped. I'm not sure where the focal point is... it it the people? Is it the line from the lower left to the middle? Not sure. You did a good job in showing the textures of the rocks, but because of the bright sun, I find the colors to be a bit washed out.
I am a fan of artistic abstracts... this one definitely falls into that category. I think if you played around with the colors a bit you could "push" the image into an abstract category. All in all... I do like it. |

Margaret, I am always intrigued by ruins as they make me image what once was behind all the rubble.... I love them... they are always of font if inspiration. Having said that, you were very lucky to have stumbled on (or intentionally sought out) this incredibly beautiful building. The sky was incredible, the image crystal clear and in perfect focus. Composition is spot on...makes me wish I could be there, too. At the risk of sounding too generic, I would do nothing further to this image at all. |

Yes, this is the last one. I sincerely apologize for boring the group to death over the past few months. It was not intentional and I do not wish to "impose" on anyone's time.
In my defense, and not any excuses, but there have been extenuating circumstances over the past year that have severely impacted my life (will not go into it...) leaving little to no time to spend photographing (which is something I love to do and find particularly relaxing) or being on a computer of any kind. In addition to this, when I did have a bit of time, I had been sending several images at a time to the administrator in order to be able to (hopefully) be part of the group a few months at a time. Somewhere along the line, some of the images had been lost in transmission - not placing blame anywhere... just an explanation.
Going forward, there will be different images submitted.
It is not my intention to bore anyone, to impose on anyone, nor to cheat the group in any manner. I sincerely apologize.

In my opinion, the image is too dark. I would have cropped out the woman's bag in the upper left corner because it is extremely distracting and pulls the eye away from the focal point, which I assume is the boy in the middle. I also would have cropped out the legs on the right - again, distracting. If this was done using photoshop, and you were applying a vignette, the middle light should have encompassed the mother, too. Street shots are tricky... they can be both intriguing and annoying all at the same time. I am not a fan of street shots, but this one is intriguing... |

Initially, my first impression (before reading any of the comments) was that the image is not straight. That was the first thing I noticed. After reading the comments, I do agree that the black and white version is better (in my humble opinion) and is more dramatic. I think the "straightened" version is the best, the slight tilt to the right was very distracting ... I love the sky in the color version and I think that if you were worried about altering the perspective by straightening the image with the steps rather than the roof, you could try to move the image slightly to the left to get "rid" of the "half wall" on the right.
Israel is always a font of inspiration when it comes to photography. I find that anything that has survived hundreds of years warrants any effort to capture it's beauty for posterity.
I hope this was helpful. |
