One of my favorite creatures - ugly and beautiful at the same time. You did a wonderful job of bringing out all the details with your editing and the lighting was direct enough bringing out that luminescent green on the wings. Another masterpiece. |

This was a good try. Tiny creatures with a big lens is really a challenge. I have found that using the auto focus is the best way to go when you are 6 to 7 feet away. In Costa Rica I tried getting close up shots of leaf cutter ants with their load. I was on the ground 3 feet from their path and used manual focus. I was able to get some fair images but was also pre-focused on an object in their path and waited for the ants to pass that spot. Although the ants move fairly fast it is no where the speed of the bees. Find a flower or a frequented area and pre-focus on that area and shot, shot shot. |

Wonderful image. The two birds are very sharp and I love the lighting on the parent illuminating the green feathers. I had noticed the spot Judith had mentioned and felt it was indeed part of the background. A little burning in that area might help as the parent's beak is bright in that foreground area. The catch light in each eye really seem to add to the image. Your camera setting are right on for this situation and the use of your natural light creates a real feeling of nature and natural setting. |

Wonderful portrait shot. The stare of the watchful eye, the detail caught in the head and the feathers are great. I would go along with Sharon's suggestion of dodging the top and right side if the eye to farther enhance the eye. I feel that either cropping some off the right side would help or back to the original and crop just above the signage showing more if the wings. |

Another top notch image. Camera settings are right on for stop action of the geese landing and stop action of the splashing water. Perfect timing so the feet are still visible but they are still creating water splashing and tails. To my eye the only concern I would like to see is in the back goose. The underside of the back wing - I would like to see it a little lighter to create some separation between the wing and the dark head of the goose. |
