49 Feb 17 Comment Nice image and good editing of the eyes. Not sure of the distance from camera to dogs / sled but wonder if a less direct flash (aimed just over the driver's head)would have reduced the red / green eyes and reduced the glare off the reflective tapes. I think your image projects the idea of good movement with the dogs feet all in focus, different positions and the endurance of the race with their tongues hanging out.
Hope you were able to keep warm throughout this whole race. Too cold for me - I'm a Florida boy.

49 Feb 17 Comment I like this arrangement of sun flowers. The colors are vibrant and bright and play well together. I feel that a smaller aperture would have also benefitted the image and some of the softer areas. Good crop choice. Feb 22nd
49 Feb 17 Comment Although this type of image is not my cup of tea so to speak I do like the brightness of the colors as they tend to meld together well. You have cropped it well and brought out a lot of details that are sometimes hard to duplicate. Feb 22nd
49 Feb 17 Comment Could not get the image to upload. Feb 22nd
49 Feb 17 Comment Not sure what you intended the interest to be either. With what you do have I feel that selected areas of adjusting exposure, highlights and dehazing would benefit this image. A quick adjustment attached to bring out more detail. Left the wing in the image that I feel should also be removed and make it a pano. Feb 22nd
49 Feb 17 Comment Interesting. This looks like a biology project. Most is sharp and clear with much detail present but when looking at the blown up image it looses it's sharpness. Good work and I like your perspective on images. Keep up the good work. Feb 22nd

52 Feb 17 Comment Mike,
Nice image. I too had an initial thought that the eyes were crossed when I viewed this. I was also bothered by the mono yellow look of the eyes with no texture but upon investigating other images that seems to be the case with these owls. The blood stains on under the beak and on the top portion of the beak add reality. On my monitor in the lower left, in the back of the head on the left side and the right side appear to have a light blue tint. I also think that if you remove or darken out some of the area on the left side of the head (almost a triangle shape) it would give the face a rounder look more in line with the crown of feathers that encircle it. It is a good image and I may be too nitpicking on finer details.

52 Feb 17 Comment Judith,
What a bright beautiful image. The colors are brilliant it is sharp. crisp and it is cropped well. I too am having trouble in seeing the softness the others have mentioned. I do believe that the red veins of the flowers have a tendency to be of a fuzzy nature and not crisp as many would like to view it the farther away from the center you get and the smaller they get. I think removing the 3 spikes on the left side as suggested would help to enhance the image. I do also like the drop of water on the bud.

52 Feb 17 Comment John,
I have looked carefully at the original and also at the second post image. To me your second post has much better with more color in the eye and beak than the one originally posted. I do agree with you on the original crop and what you were trying to accomplish. Cropping out that little blue area on the backside doesn't work as you loose the separation of wing and body. Good body detail and sharp eye in either case.

52 Feb 17 Comment Lisa, This is a great shot of an orchard spider. I know that how small they are and how difficult they are to photograph. You were lucky to be underneath as they are normally on the underside of the web. With the noise I use a program called Imagenomics and it does wonders - see image. Shooting that close to a tiny object - the depth of field is very small as suggested by the back leg. I also understand that they usually thrive in lower light areas in hammocks, swamps and bogs with lesser light. I have tried many times to conquer this spider and it's colors and am still waiting for the perfect shot. Feb 22nd
52 Feb 17 Comment Like this image a lot. Two juvenile in the same frame and in focus a definite plus. I think I have to agree with Lisa's crop of the image as it crops out some of the dead wood so to speak and helps one focus on the eagles a bit better. Do to the immature nature of the birds it is a little difficult finding the face and eyes as they blend with the wing areas. A thought might be to darken the wings a little more to help distinguish the head, eyes and beak better. I know that is a catch 22 as we try to show all the wonderful detail of the feathers. Feb 22nd
52 Feb 17 Comment Love the bird coming right at you with mouth open and wings spread. Speed seems right as the water droplets are frozen in place and visible. The blend of the golden background and blue waters are a plus. My only concern still is the edge of the wings and the right front leg (looking at the bird) still appear to be blown out to a degree with little detail in original and re-worked image. This is why I dislike white birds - there is always a blown out area no matter what you do in 95% of images taken. Feb 22nd
52 Feb 17 Reply One of the owls favorite resting places was in a culvert in our driveway. It would emerge at dusk almost nightly. I was shooting at a slightly down angle from the driveway and the green background is the grass of my lawn on a slight rise behind the owl. We have not seen it in over a month now and are hoping it found a mate. Feb 7th
