25 Mar 23 Reply Brian, see my comment to Bollin about what the judge in my camera club's competition thought of the vertical branch. I also thought this image would make a good monochrome. I worked on several versions of close-ups of the driftwood, but in the end, I decided the wider shot was the better image. Mar 17th
25 Mar 23 Reply I agree a wider aperture would be an plus, the problem is I did not take this image with the driftwood as the subject. There is a lighthouse on the outer sand spit which was my subject, and I was trying to frame it with the driftwood. I created this image for this month's camera club competition. The subject was "nature" so the lighthouse had to go. Below is the unedited original. By the way, the judge did not like the vertical branch because it broke the plane of the surf and sandbar. Sometimes you just cannot win. No award for me this month. Mar 17th
25 Mar 23 Reply Lance, thanks for the comments. I checked out you study group and really liked your image of Longboat key. I think you photo essay will be very interesting and would like to receive a link when you are done. Mar 17th
25 Mar 23 Comment A great image that makes me feel I am there. I was curious if the image had a complete tonal range, so I took it into Lightroom and adjusted the whites a bit to include the whole tonal range. Not much of a difference, probably wasted my time. Mar 17th
25 Mar 23 Comment I really like this image. It tells a story and makes the viewer think. The fact the model is dressed as a Goth complements the figure on the wall. My eye went to the white paint on the wall in the top left corner. Also, I thought if the model and figure could pop a bit more it could be impactful. I cropped a bit off the left side and made a mask for the background and adjusted the exposure and contrast. I think this would also work for the B&W version Bollin made. Mar 17th
