25 Jan 19 Reply I know what you mean about reducing quality, but that said I always shoot about 10% bigger than I the scene I want just to give me a little wiggle room in post. I find that there is little or no loss of quality. I shot raw and have a 20mb sensor. Jan 23rd
25 Jan 19 Comment Great snowy image. I think the composition is too wide which makes it seem busy. The lighting is good. B/W is the best for this shot. To me the subject is the reflections in the water. It highlight this I took it into Lightroom where I converted to a square and cropped out the left side. The result is attached. Jan 13th
25 Jan 19 Comment I like this shot, but I do not like the bug. Audrey's description provides the reason. The blue paper puts me off a little bit - maybe because it is different. I took it into Lightroom and adjusted the luminance and added some more sharpening since I thought the camera had focused on the paper not the bug. Attached is the result. Jan 13th
25 Jan 19 Comment A great people shot which tells a great story. The look on your daughters face is priceless. I think Audrey's suggestion is going it the right direction. I would also clone out the 2 hot spots, one behind you husband and one in front. I hope the rules of photojournalism would allow you to do that. Jan 13th
25 Jan 19 Comment I agree it is a spectacular image. The composition, lighting and color are spot on. I feel that I am there watching the swan. Several minor technical recommendations. A) The horizon is off just a little bit. On of my mentors is always after me to make the horizon absolutely correct. B) The swan is a little dark, lightening it a bit would help draw the eye. C) I would crop out the very top of the gray sky. It enhances the colorful sky and mountains. I did these in Lightroom so you can see the effect. Jan 13th
25 Jan 19 Comment A great shot with the canyons leading the eye toward the plateau above. The colors and lighting are good. It definitely makes me want to go and see it for myself. I find the top 25% confusing. It makes me wonder if the subject is the canyons or the plateau. Without being able to see the sky or more of the distant cliffs I would crop it down a bit to force the eye to explore the canyons. I took it into Lightroom and cropped it a bit. It is attached, see if you like it. Jan 13th
25 Jan 19 Reply There is quit a difference in the light and I agree I like the daytime better. I do not know enough about light to explain the difference. Good question to ask my camera club. Thanks for the info on using Transform in Photoshop. I do my prospective adjustments in Lightroom and have never used transform in Photoshop. I will use it in the future. Jan 12th
25 Jan 19 Comment It is really those colors. I do not know if it is paint or color that is in the stone. The night lights are very bright which does brighten the color. I have included a daytime shot to give you an idea of the effect of the lights. Jan 11th
