Thanks. For me it was good, but some club members were upset because it was not a criteria he used until he was running out of time and was trying to eliminate a lot of photos quickly. I personally do not find it a good criteria because there an many situations it is not possible to get a head on shot or a shot from a different angle would tell the story better. |

Thanks. Just as a note, my camera club competition this month was people at work. The judge awarded it a 2nd place in the advanced category primarily because he could see her face. |

Great shot and going to B&W is definitely a plus. The line along the back is a distraction. I also like the catchlight in the eye. |

A great action shot. The bird/fish are sharp and the bird's eye is tack sharp. My only suggestion is what Darin suggested, add a vignette to darken the background a little. Based on the comments on the shadow of the fish on the bird I think you may have a second photo here. See thumbnail. |

For a shot in harsh light this is a really good job. To bad you could not have gotten this shot in the early morning or late afternoon. The only thing I would do is crop some off the bottom and left side to enhance the prominence outcroppings. |

I think you are close to a really good photo. I would have moved a step or to the right to make the fence more of a leading line, and several steps forward to eliminate the dead bush in the bottom right corner. I then would crop some more to make it all about the fence and the flowers. The thumbnail shows the without moving the camera, but you get the idea. |

I agree with the other comments so will not repeat them.To me this should look like a pano shot. Shooting with the horizon line in the bottom quarter, with a wider lens. The D7000 is a crop sensor so a wider lens would begin to achieve the pano effect. The cropping out some of the top sky would increase the pano effect. Very good first start. |

I like your objective of cropping the flower to focus the eye on the colors rather than the flower itself. This is a good flower to try this. I would crop in much tighter to focus even more on the flower (see thumbnail). I imported into Lightroom and on my 27 inch screen nothing look in focus. What focusing setting were you using? I think Vincent's suggestion that this should be focus stacked is something worth trying. |
