Hi Erik
The picture is superb but what really strikes me is the amazing sharpness its crystal clear the background concentrates the eye on the main subject for me this is a bout as good as it gets, the only thing that concerns me is gators in the area if I go to a local lake or pond the only thing I have to worry about is stinging nettles. |

Hi David
What a superb candid portrait you have captured the real her not the person she wants to present if posed the 5.6 aperture is spot on and has taken out the background brilliantly leaving the woman in superbly sharp focus and the centre of attention as she should be the fill flash is spot on I would also just crop in from the left slightly but that is your choice the background colours are muted but for me sit really well with the colour of the ladies clothing this is a top image you should be extremely proud of. |

Hi Guy
I have seen several images of this building and this is up there with the best it as an amazing piece of architecture which you have captured in its full glory the dark areas do not bother me as there is clear detail where their needs to be and I think it adds great contrast and depth to the structure you did a fantastic job with the exposure as this was at the peak of the day the water creating a great big reflector well handled well seem and superbly edited. Was there a staircase by any chance? |

Hi Bill
I do a lot of night shots in and around the coast where I live and agree with you about the autofocus and live view is a must I tend to manually focus 9 times out of 10 its so much better I also use mirror lockup if this was a mirrorless camera ignore that, and I knock the a.s. off on the lens.Theres a great tonal range throughout the image love the dark to light tones on the water the tops of the buildings forming a nice triangle, well composed and a very strong mono image.

Hi Isaac
where do I start with this how about WOW or to use a Liverpool term gobsmackingly brilliant translates to genius its atmospheric its haunting it poses questions the lighting is spot on its everything. I visit a lot of art and photographic exhibitions and just ocassionally an image stays with you this is added to that mental list as for the light area I never noticed it until Guy pointed it out I was fixed on the lady and the framing of the window, take it from this critique I have no suggestions of how to improve it. |

Hi Joe
You said the composition is yours and for me its the composition is perfect as there is equal space on 3 sides of the image I would crop in slightly from the right taking out the narrow bar but its your call not mine.Textures look superb and the purple flecks on the floor and nearest orb just add a splash of colour against the browns but do not overpower like Guy something keeps drawing me back to this image |

Hi John
A very simple image which is so pleasing on the eye beautifully composed and tells a story, this could look really good in black and white as well. The simplest and most pleasing images are the ones we usually walk past without lifting the camera very well spotted.

Hi Brian
I really like this especially the swirl of the headscarf highlights on the nose look good to me rather than taking the catchlights in the eyes down a bit just lighten the whites of the eyes a bit but this is a top image bet it would look good in mono as well. |

Hi Ella
Firstly many congratulations in your recent success in the PSA PID Individual Portrait comp so glad you entered and here's an example of why you had that success and why you will continue to have success with your portraits in the future. As you know I do a lot of portraits at U.K. Comic Cons and coloured contacts are a major feature of the people I photograph but never had a person with 2 different coloured ones hope that does not catch on!You did a remarkable job with the background the exposure is spot on with a great tonal range and its pin sharp especially on the eyes were it needs to be, this is purely my personal opinion only but I agree with Stephen I would rather the skin left alone and not smoothed as I think the original shows character but that is my personal taste and I am not the author, but a superb portrait I think you have another winner on your hands Ella. |

Hi Paul
A very dynamic shot and very sharp considering the conditions on the day you described you have captured the movement really well I am going the opposite way to the others I might just bring the highlights down a touch as the bottom right to centre is very bright and attracts the eye.You got some great photos from your trip to Patagonia would love to see some more. |

Hi Ed
This may sound daft but just tried something I was looking at the picture on my monitor and had to agree with Rashid that the branches on the near bank took all my attention and the central part looked a little over exposed then the experiment I pushed my chair back from the monitor about 4 feet or so and the image all comes together in fact the main branch is bow shaped and almost points you across to the far bank.So well spotted and as John said it looks moody. |

will look at the exposure on his trousers the dark spot on his knee is soil he had jumped off the stage earlier in the act and it is off the wet grass when he knelt down. |

Hi John
As you know I love shapes and textures in images so this sits well with me I might add a little more contrast and perhaps try various crops because I think there is a really strong image in there all power to your eye and keep looking out for those images most of us would walk past. |

Hi Peter
Firstly on the flip I may be wrong but as it photo travel I don't think it would be permissable I stand to be corrected many, many congratulations on the awards this image has earned for you its not hard to see why as always tonally and compositionally it is superb but there is one tiny part of the image I find sublime on the horizon line just over a third in from the right there is jagged arc lighter than the surroundings that for me puts this image on another level you may think I have gone daft but the subltlety of that really is the icing on the cake for me.
Again many congratulations Peter for your success with this image. |
