thanks for your comments.
Yes the tree became over exposed in the painting.
We spent a week hiking and photographing in the region.
it was strenuous but wonderful.
Did you hike in Coyote Gulch as well? |

I dont think you missed out on anything by not having all of the background
I think the impact of this angle is great.
The fighter spirit in the pirate is perfect.
The painterly effect with good detail left in the face works very well.
A great image. |

the addition of the shaft of light really provides the finishing otuch & draws one directly to the baker.
I also like the way you excluded all detail form the background and gave it a blurred abstract appearance.
The painting of the model is excellent. |

I am very partial to bluebells and you have rendered this beautifully.
the subtle painterly effect still maintains enough detail in the flowers and leaves. |

The Simplify module allowed you to maintain most of the detail & hence give a please compositional effect.
It would appear that the whole image is in deep shadow & I would try & open up the exposure somewhat. I would particularly like to see more open exp. on the waterfall (perhaps by dodging) and also to get a bit better light separation between the fisherman & the rock behind him. |

The painting is definitely better than the original.
However, I still find the burnt out highlights because of the midday sun, both on the lion & the tree trunk, draws my eyes to that.
What I do like is the way you have rendered the background tree trunk & the rest of the lion. |

I have not been that crazy on the watercolor module in Snap Art, although I really like that APP.
I find Topaz Impressions watercolor better.
Having said that your masking effect was effective, except I would have liked to see a bit more detail in the face of the Kyaker. |
