Congratulations, Jerry, on your 65th Anniversary! You had a good idea about moving the venue to in front of your home. As others have mentioned, just figure out a way to add some shadows and it will be even more perfect. Give your Mrs. Hug a hug from Pat & Walter. |

Of course, you are all correct, that the flowers won't cast shadows on the sky. I once had a folding screen with sky/cloud image all over it, so I guess subconsciously, I was thinking of seeing the flowers up against a wall like that and trying to preserve the strong shadows. Gerhard's sky does look good as a background to me, though. |

For all the faults you found in your original slide scan, you compensated to the highest degree, resulting with a lovely fluffy-feathered egret with a sharp colorful eye to match. Plus you created another wonderful background that complements your bird subject very well. |

That was a nice note of appreciation to your instructor, Michelle. Your orange poppies look so nice and soft in the petals, much more painterly than in the photo. I think you could have stopped there. The purple stalk, while a nice contrasting color, seems a bit too sharp and angular to fit into this particular scene. I think it needs to have its own separate painting or to put another small orange poppy in its place. |

Gerhard, this is one of the best-looking birds I've never seen! Its pose on the colorful rare (to me) flower is a knockout for my eyes. I think the bird and its flower are enough without the additional slim flower in the background, so I agree with Nancy & Cindy. You did well to get rid of the dark stems that intersected with the bird on its flower. The mottled grey background is just perfect. What a lovely painting you created! |

Well, it may be your first attempt, but darned if it wasn't a terrific job! The more I look at it, the more I appreciate the shading you added to the pen/ink to give it shadows and make the curves stand out. When I first saw the original, I wondered what country the brandname "FLYNERTF" could have come from. Glad that your drawing lets me know it's a more familiar PLYMOUTH name. Ha! Trey made some good suggestions of things I wouldn't have thought of. You keep us interested in your progress of continual learning and letting us know how we can try some new lessons for ourselves. Thanks for letting us all in on the ground floor of your efforts. |

After Cindy's comments, your resulting image is much better. Overall, it's a terrific shot of a striking pose of a graceful young dancer. Nice to have a painting/photo of your own granddaughter turn out so well. Although it was fun to see your resulting experiment with the AI filter, I think we agree that we like the final of the real Brynn and plainer background after you made her painting with improvements. |

I'm guessing Madrid got the idea from O'Hare, since my thoughts went right to the multi-colored lights in Chicago's airport. The folks in this are just the right distance ahead to give you a wide view of their colorful surroundings without blocking too much. It might not hurt to crop off the bright white on the right, but at least the curved aqua part in that pane seems to continue the inner curve of the ceiling, so it's as though we are peeking outside. |

Original 2 seemed more harshly contrasty with mysterious dark shadows, but I think that overall, I prefer the textures throughout the Untitled one you presented this month. It seems more pleasing to my eye, with more than blank walls and widely-scattered statues. |

Nope, I would not care to see this in stark black and white, even though the composition is a strong one. The faint ombre variegation in the water adds interest for me. I love the way you captured a progression of leading lines with the gulls and the person right in a diagonal. Very neat! |

Yes, your wife was a big help to catch this golden hour scene! There's still just enough light to see that the beach IS a beach and establish the setting for this tantalizing shot. I wouldn't want to see it trimmed off the bottom. I enjoy the textures throughout the scene. |

Congratulations, Ruth, on being represented in the Members Showcase! We're all proud of you. I guess the cat in that one was a different shot of Buttercup, right?
It must be nice to see such a full-blown rose in January! The brick wall made a nice texture behind it. The light on the left petals help emphasize the shape. The vertical crop does it justice. |
