Cindy, you're correct that your finished image looks so perfect in its sharpness that one could mistake it for an actual photo instead of a final painted shot. What a difference it made to remove all the other flowers from the background, too. Like Martha's flower, your sunflower has its own "personality". I see no draw-backs at all with the result you got. Be happy! |

Martha, this is breath-takingly lovely! I love the dancing motion of the petals. You made a stunning capture and the resulting painting turned out fantastic. I have nothing to add, but keep up the great work! |

I sure like the feather look you achieved on the bird. In addition to your wonderful paint strokes, Gerhard, I really like the composition of the Cape Sugar bird on the Protea flower. Also, it's rewarding to learn about these colorful species of birds/amimals/plants that are exotic to me. |

I can't imagine how you were able to wring such a perfect sky out of the original "bald-looking" washed-out white background of the original. Is that all painted by hand? Good idea to get rid of the traffic signal lights, too. There's enough to look at in this painting without them. The lamposts and flag, on the other hand, add some interesting detail. Also, I like the whirling effect of painting on the tree leaves. Overall, it gives a nice impression of the scene, Nancy. |

Thanks for the Liquify suggestion, Nancy. I haven't used that tool for several years. |

I guess I need some work on the "blotchy" area. Thought it was a shadow. |

This painting turned out very well. You effectively eliminated all the distracting brighter spots that were in the original. The brighter greens and varied areas of darkness/brightness also add to the attractiveness of your painting. We have this plant in the area where we live now (mid-South), but I had not come across it when living up north, so it was new to me. It's known as Bee Balm in these parts, but I'm glad you listed all the names. Nice job, Trey. |

This is some interesting geometric interior! I like the variety of light to dark shades throughout, which define the hanging cones. It pays to look up. |

Despite the title, the overall scene just doesn't seem to be about the bluebonnets, which were lovely to see. I tried copying and flipping the shot horizontally to see how that looked, but it still was leading away from the subject. Too bad the strong wind didn't cooperate so you could get a closer-up shot. At any rate, I enjoyed seeing the peaceful scenery along this walk, Ruth. |

Gene, I think your cropping of the shot does as much to focus on the priest as Steven's darkening of the foreground would have. The bright light he is standing under focuses well on him in what appears to be a quick, secret moment of contemplation. I love the uniqueness of this subject. You included just the right amount of elements to pique my interest. |

This is one of those images that makes one think "OK, hmm...what is this?" and examine each part of the photo. Since there are a lot of bright colorful areas competing for attention, I don't have a sense of focus on a particular subject. The clear reflections seem to add so much to the overall photo and it is amazing that the cherry blossoms show up so clearly at night-time and everything is in nice, sharp focus. Even while getting to your car, you saw this opportunity and without your cell phone, it would have been a missed opportunity to record what you saw. |

What a lovely & peaceful scene. Like Jack, the brightest area leading the eye out of the image didn't occur to me at all--until I read your own comment! (At least the eye goes left to right. It looks just great to me.) There's just enough light to illuminate interesting parts of the scene. I'm glad you didn't handle the shadows differently. It looks so natural like this. |
