Now that it's square, you seem to have lopped off the wing tips of the "pollinator" so I'd rather square it by chopping even more on the left. |

You get an "A-plus" for your compositing skills and another A-plus for the idea of combining those two shots, Cindy. Of course, the final results with the beautiful hazy fog and the sharper detail in the Sea Eagle's eye goes above and beyond. You even got a nice hint of eagle reflection now in the water to "prove" he was sitting on that ice floe, with nice horizontal strokes for the water. Super-duper! |

Wow, Martha, you sure are catching on fast to these complex techniques! Even with the white highlights, your painting is so lovely to look at with its replaced background re-done in a pink shade to coordinate so well with the berries themselves. Kudos to you. |

Wonderful subject/shot and wonderful idea of painting it as black and white, Gerhard! You left everything necessary for a terrific painting. With its ruffled-up feathers, it's a very interesting-looking eagle. |

Thanks for the little lesson. I'd never heard the term "Alla Prima". It gets it all done in one session then. That puts more pressure on the artist to get a result. If yours is any example, I'd say it really worked well for you! One would never guess he was having a meal. You kept his exact expression, coloring and all, while eliminating any distractions you could crop out. The new neutral brownish background complements him as well. He picked the right person to do his portrait for sure! |

Before I forget to mention it, I enjoyed your "Iola Backroads 6" in the Member Showcase! It's a great winter shot and feels so real.
It's hard to decide which I love more: the original with its pale shades, or the more vibrant painting. Either way, you captured the essence of the warmer weather (in contrast to Iola). I liked Cindy's idea of losing the darker brown angular stem in favor of some cloned-in background painting.
Congratulations on your sale, too. Makes us all feel good. |

You certainly found a perfect spot to shoot this from--and the right moment to clearly show the dragon's face, unobstructed! I like the way the 4 young men in yellow holding the dragon vary in facial expressions: from the last guy who looks annoyed to the next who seems a bit disinterested then the next who seems mildly interested, to the fellow in the front who seems delighted. (Jealous, much?) The red "balloons" make a terrific top frame. |

Jack, it's interesting to see how even a deteriorated scene can be made to look interesting in the eye of the photographer. I like the capture including the cyclists and you were right to leave them in shadow to focus on the structural elements behind them with the unmatched duplexes each with its own character. One thing I might change would be to crop off the sky above the roof (as it was naturally in the alternate original). It sort of pulls the eye away. |

Quang, I hardly know what to think of this shot because there's so much going on here. I do like the way perspective caused the columns on the right to lead into the center of the image and the way you brightened up the somewhat-duller original to make it more exciting. (I'll bet people in the lobby wondered what you were doing with your phone on the floor, ha.) |

Thanks, Kieu-Hanh. Here's the alternate version with Starry Night, but it didn't affect the upper sky the way you'd think. |

GORGEOUS! It reminds me of a crown with brilliant diamonds. It was worth your dropping everything to capture a blossom in ice and snow. Your treatment really brought out all the sparkle.
By the way, Gene, quick-take a look at a similar image in this month's Member Showcase before they take it down mid-month. A member from Group 39 has a frosted strawberry with this type of impact. See if you agree. |
