First, let me say you sure did well with your arrangement. I fear I'd have these round bells rolling away in all directions instead of so neatly stacked, showing their little star cut-outs. I agree the final looks coppery/bronzy and not at all rusty. I like the way the spotlight glows around the bells for the background, too, and the nice tan shades enhance rather than compete with the subject. Well done, Cindy! |

What a find! Yes, it makes a great subject for a painting. I have done some like this texture in the past because it reminds me of a cross between an oil painting on canvas and a soft blur of a watercolor, so I do like your result. Of course when I saw your second version, I liked that one, too--but in a different way because its splotches remind one of the rusting of the old vehicle. So, don't make me choose. ;-) |

The detail work you did on the feathers is particularly amazing, Gerhard! While they retain their fuzzy tendrils, they are sharper up on top than the one you shot. You must have good eyes to spot the lizard, too, because of its camoflaging brown skin against the brownish tree trunk. You handled the painting so well that it must have been a labor of love, despite probably getting tedious at times. Whew, that was a lot of work, but the resulting image was terrific! |

The new one you sent is MUCH easier to view. The delightful little bird and its curved perch look very natural against what appears to be an old barnwood background, rather than lost in a field. |

Your version looks more perfect, but maybe the reason I didn't clone those spots was to keep with the characteristic notched points the local hollies have. I think I should have gotten rid of the yellowed or brownish tinge surrounding the notches with some green, though, as you did. |

For some reason, the "gesture" of this branch reminds me of the Michelangelo painting "Creation of Adam". My preference is the same one you chose to feature as your final, this month, as the other has more springy/summery greens and this is meant for an autumn painting. Your Topaz gave such a nice painterly background. |

While I really like what you did to enhance the mask, the wrinkles in the background fabric are a bit disturbing now that they are darker. (such as the one long scar-like line above left. The feathery ones on the right blend better (even look as though they might be feathers shed from the mask), but that one horizontal one is a bit of a distraction. I think that you could easily just clone it out. Otherwise, I like the added brighter colors in this mask. |

Such a peaceful and colorful scene to wake up to! Maybe I'd be a morning person if I could catch such a view at home. The fog adds such a touch of mystery and I see so many colors all at once in the sky. This is a very pleasing shot, Jack. |

I've never had this much luck with shooting the dancing lights of Christmas in our area. About the time I have a shot framed and steady, it changes to something else, entirely! And we are riding on gravelly roads, too. So you have certainly achieved a good shot here, Ruth. Kieu-Hanh's idea to remove the traffic cones (or whatever those are) would make it look even better. |

Your enhanced version and Steven's are an improvement over the "meah-" or maybe I should say "blah-" look of the original. They not only look better, but hold the eye enough to get the story across of the regeneration on Mt. Etna. I like how the birches' trunks stand out after your enhancement, with their whiteness contrasting with the dark ash, plus the added oomph of color in the leaves. |

This just made me tingly all over. We used to go to the Chi. Botanical Gardens before they really got developed and I don't remember seeing such fantastic light displays. You were able to capture a clear, steady wide shot showing most of the island and its reflections. The colors look so vibrant, too. Thanks for brightening up the season for the rest of us! |

Thank you all for your favorable comments. I'm glad you enjoyed my mixing the real leaves with the fun background. Now, enjoy the new year! |
