It was unusual that 2 members of this group shot photos of the same type of bird this month, a beauty I'd never heard of. After seeing both of your resulting images, I expect I'll remember this one's name. I like the lovely texture in the background. I like the little touch of grunginess added to the flat sky. You were able to preserve each fine hairlike feather in the final painting, which must have taken some effort!
Thanks for your recommendation of the video. It's great when we can help each other by furthering our knowledge like this. |

The original, in its unzoomed version appeared more like a butterfly posing on the lupine stalk. Your enhancements brightened the bird and showed its true character. The light lavender blurred background adds just the right contrast to the scene. Very pretty. Love this. |

Unbelievably detailed work, Gerhard, even to the little grasshopper, which, while painted, it still is realistic enough to discern that it's not just a random twig or leaf.
The roughness of the background gives an unusual textured look. I wonder which brush does that? You got further along and more quickly than my brief dabble with a mixer brush and your results are prompting me to give it another try. The pose and colors wonderfully complete your painting. Terrific job! |

You got more mileage out of this pretty little finch, Nancy, with the new and more painterly background. You had a good idea using the Internet stock photo as inspiration for this change. Eliminating the distractions of the background setting created such a beautiful image. I like the more emphatic catchlight in its eye, compared to the November one and the original. It looks great. No need for further enhancements, for sure. |

Funny how you & I were the only participants who didn't paint a bird this month! (You could have entered a Firebird or Thunderbird 😊) I really love the effect(s) you achieved with Topaz and my husband, who loves Vettes agrees. The original seems cluttered with parts of other old autos showing, but your enhancements draw my eye right to the blue Corvette and the others are appropriately just background now. Well done. |

Yes, Ruth, you got the right idea, because I did want an optimal reflection. |

Now that you mention it, Jack, it probably WAS subconsciously trying for camouflage in nature. |

While I liked Quang's idea about reducing distortion, I prefer the real colors. & shadings in your actual shot, which has more punch. In his example, colors are washed out lighter, so I say keep it natural, it's such a lovely line of surf and sand! |

I like the depth of field you were able to achieve and the diagonal line makes for an interesting composition. |

Great focus on Buttercup's face & especially pleasing to have such tack-sharp focus on eyes & whiskers- two things that cats tend to move frequently. Well cropped, Ruth. |

Gene, I love the dreamlike soft quality to this one. One thing, no matter how red the roses I shoot look in real life, they never ever look as bright red as yours in the photo. I use iPhone X. So kudos for the great look! |

Welcome to the group! You were clever to think of using pano vertically to capture so much of this beautiful church that an ordinary shot would have missed. I am impressed with the clarity of detail in a usually dim location. Years from now, when you look at this, that annoying floor sticker in your original will remind you when it was you made the trip. I like the intricate front doors, too. |

Bob, I like the way the tree branches lead our eyes to the building. I echo Quang's comment about being sorry to lose the little details like the clouds (having been replaced with just a blank expanse of white). I otherwise like the composition and my 8-year old self would have loved coloring it in with crayons, ha! I hope you can come up with a fitting title. Those are fun to read and often add to the experience. |
