It seems to be a consensus that the bright blue sky is a distraction, so I appreciate the comments as a way to enhance the image. Also, the suggestions of how to keep the image from appearing to be pasted onto the background. Thanks for the input. |

While you chose a tighter cropped image, I am drawn to the mountains in the original, so it appears that you could have a second subject for a future painting. I do like the way the cropping brings out the S curve that is just a small element in the overall original, and the painterly way you got everything to coordinate together. The only thing I would think to change would be toning down the brightness of the sea to emphasize the greens in the landscape. |

I just love everything you did to make this painting, Gerhard! The new placement of the birds looks better and the blue color modernizes the idea of it being a painting. Wow, I think you achieved exactly what you set out to do. I can't think of anything I would change about it. Even the bird behind the horn adds something to the depth, now that we can see its beak. Also, terrific job in simplifying the background, yet keeping that wild outdoors look. |

Good thing you spotted this, even if after the shot. I was having a "what IS it?" moment when I first laid eyes on your interesting image, Nancy. I agree that it would be more evident with some extra work on the eye.
I enjoy the feathers and grass the way you enhanced them against the now-white background. |

Such great improvement with the now more-colorful scene. I agree with you having lopped-off the stragglers from the main geese formation to improve the zigzag composition. Also, having the cows in the foreground does help say "Wisconsin" as the setting. |

While the droplets were lovely as photographed, you created an equally lovely painting without most of them. I agree with the idea of cropping to really focus on the top of the flower. |

The changes you made from the original were subtle, yet just enough to give a realistic feel to this fall scene. Your image has a branch leading the eye UP but Gene's flipped version seems to have the same branch leading the eye DOWN (since we are used to seeing from left to right in the US.) Just my minor observation. |

I liked your image the best this month, Jack: even without color, the shot speaks volumes with a great backstory, depth, textures, lighting and shadow throughout. The rolling dunes are lovely. |

That's a nice Texas-style lit-up greeting to the group, Ruth. I shot some a couple years back in a moving car of one of these light displays here but yours came out better and more colorful to begin with--even through the windshield! Great job of clearing out unnecessary wires and poles. |

Although it loses a little bit of the architecture of the building, I like the cropping version Kieu-Hanh showed, because it eliminated the bright distraction of the lights. The scene in general seems very well lit for an after-dark image, so it didn't have to show those sidelights. You can still see the best aspects of Gehry's architecture. Thanks for sharing, as "who knows?" when I'll ever get back to Spain to see Bilbao. |

You certainly got an entire story to tell around this image, Belinda! I enjoyed the emphasis on the rust tones as you enhanced them. It looks like you got everyone's wheels turning in the suggestions, so I have no further ideas for improvement. I like these old fashioned rusty tools and your title, as well. |

Welcome to our group, Bob! I once shot a similar subject near sunset near a relative's home in Stuart, FL. It was surprising to me how silently the many birds gathered on the trees. I don't think mine would have come out as well as yours did if I'd tried to use the iPhone. Although there is faint blur in the original, your final image looks acceptably sharp, especially with the flying birds on top cropped away. I love the colors you were able to get throughout the image and also the reflected flying bird at the lower left. |
