I chuckled at your clever title, Cindy. Halo or no, this looks very charming up against the nicely-colored lineny background you used to replace the somewhat-distracting water and out-of-focus rocky embankment. The tight crop is a good lesson for me, as I tend to show as much of the creature as I can. This one shows all that is necessary for the theme. |

The intense color of the wheat really gives a lift to the scene and focuses my eye on it, while the darkened clouds help point the eye down to it from the top. I like the "watercolor on white background" look of the final product, reminding me more of an actual watercolor painting. Now that I looked again at the tree tops, I agree with Gerhard that softening them would enhance the watercolor look. |

Gerhard, I don't think you could have found a better subject for monochrome! And I liked the way you shot it, leaving space in front of their perfectly-lined-up heads. Also, the reflections certainly complement the image. It's a very cool image and I can't think of a thing that needs any improvement. |

I echo the comment Trey brought out: that is looks reminiscent of the works of the old Masters. You did a perfect job with your golds and brown tones. |

Trey, you did a masterful job with cropping and/or cloning the top and the colors are just magnificent. The only thing is that I feel like the "bridge" is sort of a cliff now, since the sky is no longer visible on top. I wonder if toning down the sky to a dark navy shade (but letting it still show up as sky) could keep that bridge feeling. (Just my 2 cents). I think your rich colors work well enough to keep my eye in the frame. |

Trey, I think your version preserves the awesome feeling I had from seeing such a great number of silent, sunstruck birds in their evening community while it keeps the exotic look of the Spanish moss. I didn't want to remove too much of the scene that contributed to that feeling. I have to agree with you and Nancy that the empty birdless branch in the lower right didn't add to the scene, after all. |

You sure are giving us some interesting things to see in Washington, D.C. Kieu-Hanh! I like the waviness of this intriguing building, but it seems to lean a little to the left. If you have Snapseed app, try under TOOLS> Perspective> Free in order to tweak it slightly. Love the colors. Love the clouds in the sky. Love the curved sidewalk that frames the lower corner. |

I agree with your cropping out the lower left building which added nothing. Also, I liked Ruth's comment about letting the road and subtle parked cars remain to alleviate the crowded feeling of stacked-up buildings with no means of access. But, by all means, just clone out those distracting white signs and poles down there. Otherwise, I like the angled scene and the soft evening shades very much. |

Glad you joined us, Gene! This is such a scene of contrasts that you shot at a good moment so we can witness the brunt of the storm from the light and dark clouds to what appears to be the already-pouring rain in the distance. The boat masts serve to enhance the drama. I liked the comments above about cropping away even more of the lower water foreground to make a panoramic shape that complements the horizontally-spreading cloud pattern. Wow, there is definitely greater impact seeing this in monotones than in color. I like to see you come up with a title; this deserves it. Something along the lines of "Tempest in Sicily" |

Try as I might, I couldn't spot the little snail in your original. I like the tight crop on the hydrangea plant which makes the snail show up. I think the scene needs to be a little bit brighter, though, to show off his yellow color. It's quite low-key this way, unlike the original. |

I think that's a good idea about removing the little specks. |
