I agree the biggest difference was in the eyes. They look so much better now, while the changes to the background are more subtle. The overexposed original was a blessing in disguise because it brought out all the detail in the gorilla's fur. |

Cindy beat me to the punch: I also wanted to congratulate you on your bridge photo in PSA Journal! I recall shooting photos at that spot years ago, but yours did it proud.
This little gal is a real eye-catcher for sure, with her innocent curious look while playing. The smooth paint strokes enhanced her hair while faint splotches painterized the background perfectly. So, whatever you did, it worked! |

Gerhard, this is such an interesting scene with so many areas of interest!
After reading Terry's comment, I have to agree that the sign takes away some of the impact of the church. However, I wouldn't want to see it cloned out, just darkened, toned-down so that it doesn't jump out at the viewer's eye so much. I feel that the sign does add something important to the scene, but it's too bright. Also, is there any way you could enhance the detail in the round emblem over the door, say, on a layer in Photoshop? That embossed circle looked interesting in the original.
While I do like the stucco look on the church and trees, I wish you had done something a bit softer on the sky and clouds so that they'd look smoother, less "scratchy".

The original was quite over-exposed looking and washed out, so it's really nice that you were able to hone in on this group of three red clusters and get them brighter while toning down the rest. Although the leading line of the branch is now a less-distracting grey color, I think it would look even better if it were darker. As it is, it still jumps out at the viewer a little bit too much.
I liked your helpful explanation about the inner stroke you created. It's faint, but adds a pleasing element to tie things together with its reddish shade. |

Trey, I like this VERY much! the high-key vignetted look really serves to focus my eyes on the key parts of the blossom. The softness adds to the painted look. Great work. |

When I lived in Michigan & Illinois, we saw--and heard--these a few times, but yours is one of the best close-ups I've seen, very sharp for a cell-phone camera, for sure! I thought they'd have arrived in Tennessee by now, but not so far. (If they make it to Texas, Ruth can add to her Yard-Art shots.) I liked your "body-builder" observation.
The vertical angle adds a lot of interest. Super shot, Kieu-Hanh! |

Unlike some of the others, I have to say I actually like the spots of colored light sprinkled around the shot, as they are fairly evenly-distributed: the blue in the window straight ahead gives my eye a place to pause from the expanse of dark buildings, as does the one lit up room on the right side and the Bangkok signage and sunlit roof tile on the left.
It's a nice soft sunset with a hint of clouds, a fleeting moment at a magical time of evening. |

That spider made itself a neat little home circle. I never saw webbing like that, that outlines the little critter. Good eye! This was an unusual shot and the lack of tack-sharpness makes it seem like it was painted. |

This is one of those images that my brain says "what IS it?" so it really caught my attention. My first impression was that it was the corner of a pool deck. ;-) I like the shadows you used to enhance the look overall. I second the idea of offering it to your favorite coffee shop. I'm sure they'll treasure it! |

Thank you, Kieu-Hanh. That sounds like something I should have tried. I previously had another version showing the buildings better, but I just wanted to focus on the sunset and its reflection for this one. |
