This is an unusual and fun look for a still life, Cindy! I love the way it turned out, with the painting running out into the white borders and the brush work on each suitcase and trunk. Even the colors look terrific here! This would make a great framed gift for a traveler (if there is such a thing nowadays). Oh, and the title is highly appropriate and goes along with the light-heartedness I feel when seeing this painting. |

Your use of DAP has done a marvelous job on converting this into a painting that is interesting to look at. I particularly like the way you treated the sky and water with the watercolor texture. I'm thinking that it must have been hard to maintain all the netting in the traps and still have the water showing through. |

Gerhard, I'm glad you explained what was going on in the photo. I like the new sky background a lot, as it keeps my focus on the animals. I like the warm tones of skin that you got from Photoshop, but to me, the sharply wrinkly look is just a bit too exaggerated in the final painting. I'd prefer it a little more natural, if you have a way to go back about half a step of sharpening. You succeeded in getting better detail in the dark shadows of both the one in front and the largest elephant, which I like. |

This very realistic still life looks good enough to eat, Nancy. The veggies have taken on a nice mellow glow. You got a lot of mileage out of Mixer Brush! |

The painting certainly has a brighter, more "fun" feel about it than the gloomy darks of the original. I think the Impressionist painters would approve. It's very "Monet". The name Skunk Lake makes me laugh, because it sounds the opposite of your delightful creation. |

Maybe a pinkish stroke would help; I'm afraid I don't know which app would let me do that just yet. |

I see what you mean, Belinda. Maybe I could have done some extra masking, if I had seen that area getting too much coverage. Thanks for the comment. |

I'm glad you got the idea I was trying to put across: a frame for the other layer of flowers on the branch. |

I never really saw such a hood ornament and probably wouldn't have thought to photograph it individually, so "good thinking, Kieu-Hanh!" It's a shame newer cars don't have stylish parts like this. (Of course, they'd likely get stolen.) The antique auto shows are fun and I like the way you focused on that one part. |

I agree with losing the yellow tones in the black and white conversion. It's a lot easier to focus on the gist of the image without the color to distract the eye. |

I've never yearned to go to a place called "Death Valley", but you sure shot a dramatic image, Jack! I tried looking at it with just the horizon at the top and the sky & mountains cropped off. I agree with some of the others that it has more impact without the full shot. I like the great amount of detail you captured in this shot and the sense of motion in the stillness! |

Up north, we had trilliums, but they were white and turned pinkish, never purple. The 3 petals sort of remind me of those, particularly at this time of year. It's a shame the right petal got cut off, but this is something people find wrong with my iPhone photos when I try to get close-up and sharp shots. (I know there are ways to add space and clone stuff--which I could easily accomplish in Photoshop on my desktop PC, but it seems too frustrating on the small cell phone.) You got such a nice colorful sharp image, Ruth! Happy earth day! |

My first impression: I sort of thought of this as reminiscent of Easter, with the cross-shape made by the surfer and upright body and the sunshine behind. You did a masterful blending of the two images, Phill. |

This is certainly something most people wouldn't have thought of, to combine a church interior with a spiral effect! Very clever and I am impressed with your result. I like the lacy effect made by the cathedral windows. Seeing the original now, I understand why the upper left area and lower right are quite a bit darker than the rest of the spiral: because it was just like that when you shot it. To use an old-timey expression: this is really neat! |
