56 Sep 19 Comment Nancy, it's nice bumping into you here at the PSA Conference yesterday.
I love your painting, but hadn't had time to comment til now because we had so much to do before we left on this long drive out to Spokane (our longest road trip ever).
You took the shot at an opportune moment. All the participants are involved in doing their thing, and all adorned in their medieval rich-looking costumes.
The best part was how you darkened the overly-bright awning above and other parts of the shot before you did your painting. I feel like I am looking upon an actual scene from the olden days. Super job!

56 Sep 19 Comment Your weirdly-bright colors really turned this into a painting with impact. Sometimes I forget that it's not necessary to show the entire subject, just zoom in on the most salient parts, which is what you did (since a little of the boat was obscured by the pilings, anyway).
Terry, with your cropping, colors, and paint technique, you managed to successfully take a low-key early morning shot from ho-hum to stand-out!

56 Sep 19 Comment Every part of this painting exudes energy, even though it's a peaceful scene. The brush strokes are appropriate to each type of element: zebra stripes, birds (glad you kept them in), water, and background dirt/grass. The reflections sure balance the shot and who needs color when the subject is a group of zebras?
(By the way, did you happen to read in the news about a darker rather polka-dotted baby zebra born last week in the Masai area of Kenya? I just saw the story today, by coincidence, so I felt compelled to mention it.)

56 Sep 19 Comment I showed my hubby your painting and he said "Wow!!" which was also my reaction. I think this was my favorite painting of our group this month. I agree with Cyril that what I like so much is how the grass and fur complement each other, while still being distinct about which they are because of the differing brush strokes. A masterful job! 56 Sep 19 Comment I like the dreamlike quality of the Corel painting for this image. Good decision to keep the little droplets sharp. Sep 22nd
56 Sep 19 Comment I wasn't sure where Slater Bridge was, so I Googled it and your image out-caps the others I saw online, Cyril! It's so unique with its natural stones, so strikingly placed, which you captured from just the right angle.
The second pool of water, to me, doesn't detract, but I don't care for the thin whitish sidewalk leading out to the left side. AlienSkin did do a really good job of creating a painting from your beautiful bridge.

86 Sep 19 Comment Carl, Sorry, somehow I missed commenting on your photo earlier this month and now I'm out in Spokane for the PSA conference (our longest roadtrip ever), so I'm finally reading the comments on my image, too. I wonder if I'll see anyone from our group.
I lived for 38 years right in Chicago, so I rode this "el" many times, the Ravenswood Brown Line. (I can even make out the word "Kimball" as the destination in your original, so that's how I knew.) Anyway, it never occurred to me to shoot the train from this perspective. I don't see that much needed, 'cause it's a really nice shot, as is. You captured it at the perfect moment to get the curve of the elevated train on the tracks and it's very sharp. (I would have been afraid of having my cell phone fall out the window.)

86 Sep 19 Comment Janet, I only see one photo in your submission--but it's a dandy! I guess you were ahead of the curve, using a camera phone back in 2012 when the cameras were supposedly not as good as they have become in recent years.

I notice that the glamour girl poster has such nice, bright blooming flowers in her window boxes while 'Mr. Mustache's' plants look withered. Hmmmm. Anyway, interesting juxtaposition! I wouldn't object if you cropped away some of the partial window and awning on the right, leaving just these two, side by side.

86 Sep 19 Comment The original (in the little preview) looked to me like eyeballs on a post with ears of corn against a striped Mexican serape. Which is about as abstract as your final monochromatic image turned out to be. You have surely mastered the art of playing around with your images to get something totally different to appear. Actually, I can believe you tried 46 actions on it, as my husband accuses me of spending so much time editing a single image sometimes. But some of the changes are UN-do's after I decided to back up several steps after just trying something for the heck of it. It looks like you had fun "under the bridge"--especially after you started working with it. If you don't want to strictly call it a "photo", it could now be a "painting." Sep 8th
86 Sep 19 Comment This spot reminds me of some great rusty machines and crumbling buildings I had the opportunity to photograph at the Carrie Ironworks plant outside Pittsburgh on a PSA tour. It was a messy, grimy place, but a joy to shoot such a historic relic.

I like the brighter red on the final image of the car to draw attention to that part of the photo where the men are, but I think you would be right to crop the light blue you mention. Otherwise, the cropping is just about right for the subject. That's lucky that you didn't get the dirty glass or reflections from inside the train. It looks as though you shot through open windows. This was a very interesting shot, catching the men unawares and so involved in conversation.

86 Sep 19 Comment Your Yard Art series gets better and better. This must be one of the frogs you mentioned you collect in your bio.

I like the colors and textures in your image. It came out nice and sharp and he looks totally at home in this shot. All the edits you did were not obvious-looking, so I think they were the "right" ones for this image.
