Thank you all for the encouraging words. This place was fun for me to shoot and I hope Kathy will return with some great shots. Thanks, Nancy for brightening up the lower right side, which I really thought I had accomplished before sending it out, but mine still looked dark to me, once I viewed it on the website. (Sigh.) |

Elinor, between you and Nancy, you ended up with a memorable image painting. I appreciate the work you went to, getting all those strokes to turn it into a painting. And I also appreciated Nancy taking the trouble to create a changed version of it that showed toned-down brightness, instead of just remarking about it. |

It's funny how you were able to pick certain areas and lessen the colorfulness, while other elements were chosen for saturation. One would think that a bright blue sky and greenish water and leaves would enhance a photo, but your selective technique has sold me on how well it looks with just a grey sky and water but drawing the eye to the more-saturated bright aspens and building. It actually looks like it is coming right out of the photo! 3-D in a 2-D painting. I agree with the cropping. |

The yellowish tones give a pleasing mood to the final painting and you were able to bring to life some areas of the shot that don't stand out in the original, like the boat and the shadowy buildings. |

I have to agree with Elinor and Jeanine that the background effect looked a bit like yellow fur, but I really do not mind the bright color; I still focus on the zebras. You really got them all in lined up, in sync and who can resist looking at such intricately-designed animals? I think the bright reflection looks very well painted and the cropping you chose when you shot it is genius--just so perfect. |

Nancy, thank you for sharing the outcome of your local competition! Congratulations and well-deserved! It looked richly colored and interesting in its form. I did like the square stroke because it matched the general coloration of the floral grouping and sort of focused the eye. Plus it was an element we haven't been seeing in our paintings, so that in itself made it unique. The stroke on the print looked less-pronounced than the one in the photo you submitted to our group.
I like all those little strokes all around the edges and I wish I could get the hang of using Mixer Brush in Photoshop. (I know it's there, but I keep forgetting to work with it. You've certainly mastered its use.) |

I very much like how whispy the tree branches appear after the painting effects you gave them with the O'Keefe style. Overall, I do like the brightness you added, but I don't think it would have hurt to have lightly painted some of the snow texture back in on a pale grey masking (not totally black), maybe 15-20% darker. That would balance away some of the super-bright contrast in the background and keep eyes on her. I love her pose! |
