Thanks, everyone, for the encouraging words. It's nice looking for my summer shots on these chilly days and finding ways to bring out a better appearance. And it's also nice to see our group grow so that we have more input. |

I like your "full impasto" the best, more painterly. You used a whole arsenal of software to get a great effect. I love the angle, too, with the road leading off into the distance. You really should send this and your favorite shots from the Pittsburgh trip to Joseph Zaia to include in the "Revisited" program at the next Conference. I'll bet he'd like including some with "painting", for variety. |

Hi, Elinor, and welcome to the group. The altered tilt you gave to the lily was good thinking. That angle looks better for the single flower in your composition. I like the soft brush-strokes on the petals.
Although you were going for high-key, I do detect a lot of pale scribbly brush strokes to break up the background. The pinky-purple is so faint that it might as well not be there. Maybe it's just blown-out by my PC's screen. Just leave it all white or else choose a bit darker shade for the strokes to accentuate the blossom. |

You took a nice regular shot and gave it a real mood, Jeanine! I almost want to go see that spot. Well, almost. The branches have a feathery quality and color tones that are charming and inviting. I sometimes take a faintly-colored winter image and turn it into a black and white picture, but you convinced me that doing the opposite works well, too. I like that you removed that awkward limb that points out of the picture so now the curved branch is at the top. I'm glad you explained your technique. You removed the "sharpness" from the original and it's terrific as a painting. Love it!!! |

What a beautiful spot, Cyril! The texture of the brush strokes really enhance the sky and foreground bushes. I was pleased to see that you retained the original colors of the sky, rock formation and rabbit brush in the foreground, yet got the trees to stand out better. At least, they appear slightly yellower to me. Impasto with Detail really was the right choice. Super job! Your out-West photos get more and more painterly each month. I'm already looking forward to your March contribution. |

Hi, welcome to the group, Gerhard! This is a nice bold look and the petals truly take on a brush-stroked appearance. But I find the blue-ish looking petal at upper right a little off. It seems not to match the others.
I am wondering which tools you used to get that smooth brush-stroke (?) I agree with the others who would like to see a little something of a background or a cast shadow beneath to give the blossom a sense of place. Did you notice there are about 3 spots on the top and left margins where it's not pure white? (OK, now I'm just being picky!)
I think an enlarged version would look great on a wall. |
